How should I spread the backlinks between my pages like the home page, category page, and posts pages?
What backlinks-building strategy do you use for your blogs?

From what I learned and heard, the best practice is to make 60% links to the homepage and the rest 40% divided into your posts. If you have some hero posts, then you should make more links to them. But make sure to have around 60% of links connecting to the homepage. xD

it depends...
1) are you in a tough niche (personal finance, medical, banking, insurance, loans, web hosting, travel, luxury boats, etc) where the domains' authority and brands are important? Then you might want to point at least 60% of your links to the homepage of your domain to build up / strengthen its authority because it's obvious that not every Tom and Harry can rank in those niches without strong domains, while the remaining 40% of the backlinks would be split up between the other important pages (usually the ones you're trying to rank)
2) are you still in a tough niche (the same as above) but are going for long tail keywords? In this case - since long tail keywords (assuming that your domain's strength is on par with the domain strength of your competitors) do not necessitate strong links, in general - you might want to point 2-3 good links to each content page that targets long tail keywords (although, sometimes the content quality and topical relevancy of your domain might be enough to rank for these keywords), while throwing the remaining links to the homepage
3) are you in a not so tough niche (home improvement, pets, technology, crafts & hobbies, etc) in which domain strength is not important and you are trying to rank for medium-tough keywords? Then probably your best bet is splitting most of your backlinks between the (inner) pages you are trying to rank, while saving some backlinks (say, 20-30% of them) for the homepage to build up / strengthen your domain's authority and (hopefully) proof it against other SEOs that will be your competitors in the future
4) are you in a not so tough niche and / or are targeting easy keywords? Then it probably doesn't matter what you do with those links because your content's quality and your domain's topical relevancy might be enough to outrank everyone. And if that's the case, just equally split those links between various pages that you feel are important to rank, while saving 10-20% links for the homepage.
As a general rule, if you have access to a lot of quality backlinks save at least 20% of them for the homepage as strong domains are pretty important in many cases, and split the remaining links between the important pages at ratios that you think are needed.
If you don't have access to a lot of quality backlinks then I would probably point them all (or most of them anyway, like 80-90% of them) to the homepage (again, to strengthen up the domain) while focusing exclusively on content for the inner pages
EDIT: editing this post before someone jumps at my throat by going "I followed your expert advice but I'm not ranking, so you suck and are a liar". Please, understand that these are general guidelines based on common sense and my own personal experience, it doesn't mean that these steps will work for you... or work for you all the time I should say, because SEO is more complex than this and backlinks - even though they're still the lifeblood of SEO - are not always enough to rank / outrank others. So, don't jump at my throat if these steps don't work for you because it's not my fault that you've not done your keyword and niche research properly, or if google decides - like they sometimes do - to show you the finger despite of your 100% white-hat and Pulitzer-winning content site to force you into buying ads.

Have homepage as 1st priority and half of those to targeted/other pages.

It depends on the niche and competition. Like how strong your competition is and how much difficulty your keyword has?
Also, I would say that the strong domain is better. And make backlinks for those pages that you think are very important.

For those who ask questions, we can offer a basic suggestion depending on their queries. They should have at least a basic understanding of SEO! There is no reason to blame you!

Yeah, most of my replies are detailed, but only because I feel that they need to be like that. Other times they're short (and hopefully to the point), I can go either way, it depends on what needs to be said, honestly.
