EMD as a Brand Name?

Hey all, I need your help.

I have a short EMD domain name and I'm really considering using it for my business.

Example would be - businessconsulting.com

2 words and it explains what it is.

would you go with an EMD like this or register a new brandable domain?

Brandable domain if it’s my baby. Even better if the brand name hints the industry the service is in. But brandable either way.

That's how I think. Not all EMDS would make a good brand domain but I think a relevant one would.

Don't have much knowledge regarding trademarks but EMD can be a part or sister site of your main parent site which is Brandable.

Really depends on how narrow the market is, a vertical market, smaller the niche and more specific makes sense. I own one word dot com's that are valuable. Your example BusinessConsulting is way too broad and horizontal market so name is too generic for a small player.

For business you want unique busuness name. Even for blog you want to use unique business name.
There are number of name generator, or you can be creative
ex combining 2 words - a portmanteau word is great for business name.
In any case what you can do with a emd? Black hat site. Not much really. Try selling it.

That depends on how long you want to hold the project. If you want to grow and sell the site, go with EMD because tons of buyers will love to buy.

If it's your own long-term project, brand is much better. Unless the brand name is similar to emd name in your industry. Such as name+consult as a brand name is fairly common in consulting businesses. Same like name+law is common in law businesses.

IMO EMD loses its trust and looks like the 90s if you want to make a serious business.

Best way is to grow both sites and use EMD to support or as a sister site as one mentioned above.

I don't mind EMD's, and neither does big G. I think search algo's have come a long way where these things don't matter. It's all about content, authority, relevance etc.

It's like mixing oil and water together. You either get an EMD or a brandable domain, period.

I would always prefer brandable domains over EMD.

As an example, most people go to Ahrefs.com or Moz.com for SEO guides. I guess only a few go-to SEO.com

If it's direct to the point, kinda original, there is really no reason why you can't have it as your "brand name"

EMDs can be great, but don't work all the time. Like others said, it have to make sense.

Keyword(s) in your domain still help for SEO.

Premium EMD all the way for me.

Booking.com or Hotels.com are good example of EMD which can become brands.
The great thing is it is much easier for your anchors when you do your link buidling.
I also got powerful backlinks because one of my domains was a geo domain name and people thought it was a kind of official website due to the look of the domain name.

I would prefer a brand name in the case I wanted a website with a huge marketing budget so people would want to type the brand name directly in the search bar.
