I have a question about the article dates mentioned on google search result. for example, below google search result says the article was from "6 days ago".

How do I make sure that my article modified date (and NOT published date) will be the one displayed here? Because in my wordpress post, i put both "published on" and "last updated on" dates. but once it starts to get rankings, will Google put July 5 or July 10 as the article date? Should i just remove the meta for "published on" to make sure google will always display the article's latest modification date?

in my niche, most of the big sites on page 1 are using modification date in their posts, which means the latest update

For me, both bing and google pick up "modified date".

Having last updated seems fine, your visitors get insight content is regularly getting updated. If you're not updating it regularly just use "posted on date", or remove both.
