Hostgator Issues

I've used HostGator for years and have never moved simply because I have a lot of content. They've been decent to me except there is one problem and I don't know if it is me, Hostgator, or my ISP.

Every so often while I am working on my sites I will not be able to access the websites nor will I be able to access the backend of the sites through Hostgator. I have to use a proxy to get in or on my cell service so I know the sites aren't down when it happens (most of the time and I'll get to that next.) I spoke to hostgator and they claim my ISP is blocking me from getting to my hostgator IP for whatever reason. My ISP says it isn't them. It has happened on two different operating systems at my house as well as the wifi through my cell. My cell can get through when using its own cell network. It is clearly something on my network. Unfortunately, I cannot force an IP change from my router so I either have to use the proxy or wait a few hours before I can use it again. has anyone else experienced this?

And, for the other issue, every so often I get messages from JetPack claiming my websites are down. I take a peek and the whole server is down. This has been happening to me on different servers and hosts for over a decade. I think it is my main domain that I used to use which I have now decided to just point to google and use a relay for the email to test if it is my main domain. I think that has solved the problem. Every time I bring that old domain online to a blog or just a generic site it brings the whole server down. The content on that domain has been changed so many time that it isn't the content. It never gets any kind of flood of hits from any one source but it does get hits. Is it possible that for over a decade this website it getting attacked from multiple sources? I haven't had a similar outage since I moved the domain about a month ago.

Plugins that control uptime may not work properly sometimes. I recommend you to experience a different company by choosing a company that carries out free hosting.

Why free hosting? I don't pay a lot per month and I have more control over a lot things when it isn't free.

Free hosting companies aren't reliable for serious projects. They may let you down anytime they wish to do so. You'd better check some old providers which can provide decent price and reliable service. Some old companies like qhoster, bluehost, alexhost can be good.

I don't use a free hosting provider. The domain I pointed to blogger is one I just keep for fun. The rest of my domains are hosted at HostGator which I pay for. I would never put those on a free hosting service.

Sorry, I gave wrong information. When you buy hosting, I wanted to consider working with a hosting company that carries your site for free.

Hostgator have been crap since years ago. I am surprised they are still alive.

For me, nearly 20+ websites were hacked back then. And I was only hosting HTML static files. They kept saying it is my fault that I may be using outdated Wordpress plugins or something despite I've already told them I am only hosting HTML files. After a long back and forth, they refuse to admit it is their fault. When I counter back they decide to put me on "hold". I nearly lost my temper and the rep wasn't happy with my sarcasm and replied me rudely. I'm not even kidding. The rep then said, "ok, gimme some time I am investigating". I waited nearly 30 minutes and I asked if there's any update... He replied, "Sorry! We have a very strict policy on our wellbeing! It is now my break! Bye!!" then I was hooked to another rep. Could you imagine that kind of 'professionalism'?

The other rep simply said, "You need to have a site malware scan. We can do that for you. $100 per site."

I got so pissed off, especially I spent nearly the whole day trying to resolve this issue, I just told them to "f*** off" and just went with Namecheap and restored my old backups.

A friend of mine who used hostgator had similar awful experience. Her Wordpress site started behaving odd and her whole site was 'destroyed'. When she opened a support ticket, they charge her a small fee to 'fix' it. In the end, they said they can't solve the issue and told her she need to do a 'professional website restoration service'. And proceeds to charge her another fee just for that. It is stupid and nonsensical as most webhost providers have automatic backups and they would usually restore it for free.

I wouldn't recommend Go Daddy too. They do a lot of unauthorized charges along with hidden fees. But if you're just using Go Daddy for domains and auction, it is fine. Never for webhosting or SSL.

Migrate to Namecheap... They have free migration service too. Just pick a plan, open a live chat and tell the rep you wish to migrate over. Hand them over your login details of Hostgator and let them do it for you.

Sounds like hostgator is just flagging that set of ISP's IPs.
I know another provider did the same for me too, and they will never admit it, as the moment I reset router to get a new set of IPs it worked just fine.

Ask Hostagor what is causing the downtime?
they must have error logs or logs of what happened
is it a database crash, too much traffic, resource crash or???? what exactly is causing it, so you can look into it to fix it.

If Hostagor isn't willing to help, honestly, I would as I said to Scorps, change to something decent, even if it's at the same pricerange, you have decent providers like Contabo or even digital ocean if you understand sys admin or rocket/WPX if you just want someone to manage it all for you.
or heck, if your site isn't running tens of thousands visitors a day, namecheap is fine too.

You're Sure that it's from their part ? i had something simmilar happen to me last month and i had some doubts if my pc was hacked or if somebody who had access to it tried to change passwords

TBH i tried around 4 or 5 Hosts and Hostgator was the most reliable for me - however their servers happen to go down sometimes like you said - but also sometimes you can't acces to your site because of a plugin update .
also , they have a 24/7 support , in case i found a support that is always there for your help , a good hosting provider and good prices with servers that never go down , of course i'll move my sites to them , untill then i'm using hostgator

At some point move away from HostGator and use one of the better shared or vps providers. There is reasonably priced providers for both and more professional service, as well.

Never use Hostgator again. I used to be a loyal Hostgator user for years, I paid for it yearly.
Hostgator was number one at the time, but after being taken over by Endurance International Group (EIG) management changed. They act inappropriately, their service is offline to steal important data.
One time my service was turned off. I was very angry and complained, which finally reached the executive, in the end, they returned my purchase for a year.
Since then I have switched to other VPS services.
What's more annoying is that they continue to chase me everywhere until now...began to send spam, send illegal software containing viruses and malware, disrupting our activities forever.
This case has been discussed on webhostingtalk forum since 2015, and no one wants to use Hostgator anymore.

These are reasons why I refuse to buy a yearly plan with anyone. The moment it goes sour with a company, it seems to continue. I can't imagine getting locked into a deal like that.
