Hello BHW,
I've been a member for many years now, but it's been a while since I last visited the forum. I remember coming here often back in my college days, trying to learn how to create a side hustle, and make some extra money for a gaming PC. I made a several affiliate marketing websites back then, but never made any significant amount of money. My problem is that I always spend most of my time on things like performance/designs of the my websites (things I loved working on), instead of focusing the content. I never liked writing articles, I tried using AI article generators but couldn't really get it to work.
Now, many years later, I'm a professional software engineer, married, built my dream gaming PC 3 years ago, and making good income. But after all these years, I'm still struggling to build a money making online side hustle even with my programming skills. I tried making another affiliate website a couple months ago, and surprise, surprise, I still suck at writing content so I quit again after... I guess I'm just not passionate about spending months building an affiliate marketing site anymore. Instead, I want to focus on the things I love, such as making a high performance web app which doesn't require a lot of content, some sort of niche online tool that can help other people with running online businesses etc. But I'm having trouble finding an idea that doesn't already exist. Some of my ideas might take years to finish, not sure if I will stick through and make it to the end. At my job, I can spend years working on the same project without burning out, but I found it very difficult to do the same with my side projects without the pressure from the product owners. That's why I want to make sure I work on the things I enjoy the most, start making money off of it in around 2 months, having the sense of accomplishment and the motivation to continue, then eventually have it generate income on autopilot before moving on to the next project.
I've been frustrated about myself on not being able to create an online business to generate side income although I have a programming skills to do so. I'm here today seeking your wisdom, what do you think is the most important factor to create a successful online business? Are you passionate about the niche you are in? How long does it usually take you before you start making money from your online business? And what section of the BHW forum do you think will help me the most?
Thank you so much!
