Hi,

I'm a bit addicted with "free and smart" backlinks, I like to look for it in my concurrent's reports (not creating them though :) ).

But almost everybody's saying it's useless... as I've a good opportunity to test this, let's see if my addiction to foundation backlinks is worthless!

Use Case:

I've 2 websites, duplicated + translasted + proofreaded with native speakers, from my main site (mother tongue).

Fresh domain name, launched on same date in 2 countries (~ same population), easy niche.

There are totally similar, only Site 1 have a very little redirect 301.

Site 1 gonna be the lucky one with backlinks.

Site 1:

site1c.jpg

Site 2:

site2.jpg

site2c.jpg

Backlinks:

- I'm gonna use 20/30 backlinks that indexed well last year for another of my website
- I'm gonna use also the best 20/30 backlinks from this forum

What's next?

Let's wait till end of June and adapt the strategy if needed: add web 2.0, add more links..

Fascinating! Looking forward to this journey and to see how it plays out.

5/6 hours of work after:
- 44 backlinks created (most of them are very qualitative for foundation links)
- 1 lost
- I'll add 2/3 very good ones in the next days

I bet on no change at the end of the test.

Of course backlinks are effective.

Great quality backlinks from authoritative sites work. The cheap stuff you find won't work.

14 links indexed, no change for now.

Had the opportunity to write a free guest post for site 2 this week, it's probably gonna outrank 45 "useless" links :)

What is a “foundation” link specifically? Are you just talking about brand anchors?

How do you get these links?

Half from this forum
Half from my competitiors in 2021(only the best ones) who indexded well for one of my website
And how do you get the same links as your competitors? Just asking these websites to place your link?

Put your competitor's website on Ahrefs, check their RDs then you can see from which sites they are getting backlinks.

It's the purpose of my case study: confirm it or not.

I'm using the "best" of shitty links.

Looking forward to the next update.

I've said for many a year, go witth quality over quantity.

Ok yeah i get this point but it's more: how do you reach out to this websites? Just mailing them and asking if they would like to place your link? Or swap links?

Interesting study, I'm going to follow it.

But it would have been more interesting if you made two sites competing for the same SERP. Because now they have different competitors and SERPs. Not to mention that Google doesn't have the same algorithm/updates for all countries.

Good initiative anyway, it will be interesting to see the results.

It depends on which type of backlinks your competitor has built.

If they are guest post links, you need to reach out and ask them for a guest post.

Or you can build them yourself if they are profiles, web2.0, or something else.
