Its easy to point fingers when you have been here since 2009.
i like Fiverr that has a solution, an prompt that comes if you share email/Skype when that particular thing should stay inside the forum. especially that BHW is a SEO forum first, and service forum second.

You're comparing BHW - a forum - with Upwork/Fiverr - That's apples to oranges.
We're a forum - the forum allow anyone to register - anyone to post. The team moderates everything on the marketplace. Vets every single service. Hence, the blue sticker.
You got approached by a random dude. So if some random guy on Facebook were to message you, will you indulge in a transaction? Or maybe on Reddit? And then will Facebook or Reddit take responsibility?
Would you goto the Bitcoin forums and pay everyone who messages you asking for a service?
BHW is a community much like the above two. Marketplace being one of its strictly moderated section. Buy from the marketplace and if someone fucks you over, moderators get involved. Buy from some random dude who messaged you - and you and you alone are to blame.
The forum isn't to be blamed for your naivety.

@Dandi1985 it does not matter who’s fault it is. You wouldn’t be down 5k today had you done a bit of research and learned how the marketplace works and who’s allowed to sell.

Friend let's get one thing straight: this is a forum. This is a forum where people talk and discuss and yes send PMs.
What happens in PM (= private message) is no one's business except for the people talking.
Now there is also a side story to this forum: people can sell things here. People can sell IF they have a blue ribbon on their profile that says 'Jr. VIP'. If they are not blue members then they can't open any sales thread on BHW.
These non-blue members however can still talk in PM because that's what's PMing is for. If they try to sell something in PM you should report and move on and look for blue members only. Regardless of the fact that most of the discussion on this forum is lighthearted and not even hardcore blackhat, there are people who are only here to scam.
Why this doesn't happen on Fiverr or Upwork? Those platforms are for selling. BHW is mainly for discussion. If you only buy from Blue members and from Approved Sales Threads then you probably won't get scammed on BHW either. Or at least if you are there will be consequences for the scammer. BTW many people's work on Fiverr or Upwork I consider so low quality that it's borderline scamming but that's another topic for another day.

If you know someone that is NOT upgraded selling, then report him. Easy as that. You really should have read the terms and rules before you engaded in a business transaction. Don´t blame everyone else for a thing you set yourself up in.

There are 100s of members that are on shitlists here so I think that a membership doesn't stop scammers.
Claiming that this happened because the scammer was not a member is illogical as members are scamming here and there too.
I think the fault lays at the way this forum is built. It is like stepping in early 2000s internet.
Just my thoughts as a newer free member, no disrespect to you all.

This forum is no different then the real world, you need to know how to minimize your risks by knowing what the terms is and who the counterpart is.
