Google buzz launched today. All gmail accounts now have twitter-like functionality. Post photos, videos, and links... Waiting for socialoomph or ping.fm to add functionality.. Opportunities?

I think Google Buzz will just join the heap of lots of other failed Google services.

It's designed to allow users to share links, photos, videos, and status updates with their friends, as well as talk about and shared content. It's very similar to the News Feed in Facebook in that regard and it's also similar to FriendFeed.

And that's Google Buzz's problem right there. It's a clone of to too many services that have already been released. Google Buzz looks like a "me-too" product. I don't think Google Buzz will get much press.

Also - add to this that the fact remains - if in order for it to even be 'usable' requires "integration" with other social networks... its just more evidence that it is trying to piggyback.

Yeah, I thought clone too. I couldn't see the need for it and felt it to participate is to hand more power to Google and IMO they have too much already - it is going to their head.

Callit - I have to agree with you. It's too much at this point. How many laconicas and friendfeeds and twitters can we possibly use? With so many of these similar design concepts, I think in some ways - unless it's something that provides some real innovation - we're starting to hit critical mass on many fronts. Google's advertising platform is very strong, gmail is great, analytics and ad manager work really well too... But look at Orkut - at least in the USA it never caught on. And the places where it does have some traction it has competition with hi5 and friendster. I think it's best for them if they keep their noses out of the social networking sphere... I personally won't be attempting to monetize it..

Buzz is more like the live feed section of facebook, which is like twitter... They're all the same to me - microblogs. 140 characters of text.

Google Buzz, is a freaking competitor of FB & Twitter,
It allows you to all that you do it twitter & FB, & the good part is you dont have to go to different sites for meeting your friends & Followers,

From a usability standpoint, It's awesome & it saves my time by allowing me to do everything withing my email account only. Logging in to different sites for connecting is a big headache.
In my opinion its a big slap on FB & Twitter's face. In the long run it's gonna be popular like crazy. & Soon we will see DP threads like
"How i made 1000$ With google buzz"

I agree with you mate, But given that plenty of people use gmail & it's indeed freaking time consuming to go to different sites & Manage those accounts separately.

Rather here, I get to connect with every one very easily, It's a clone, but is the most easily accessible social networking tool. & why would i go to other sites when i will be able to connect to my friends directly when i check my emails? I think it's a smart move on their part. By doing this they will also control the much hyped Real Time Search Industry.
