It's just easier. You don't need to pay crazy money on developing the site, and starting at 30 bucks a month that's peanuts for some so they don't have to go crazy on Wordpress/don't have a clue with web dev and don't want to mess with freelancers. Shopify has tons of advatanges over wordpress, for example Shopify Payments can be an alternative to Stripe or any other CC payment gateway.
Another advantage is Google loves Shopify websites. I track many different Ecom platforms and Shopify tends to rank more consistently than others.
