WordPress Bot Comments Spam

Hello everyone, are you getting those bot promotional comments too? i am getting like 50 comments a day, and i have each time to go through them in order to delete them, is there any plugin add-on or anything that will allow me to get rid of this problem once and for all?

they help with the content staying fresh and with user engagement IF they're real, and on topic. If they're not on-topic... they're just wasting your time like you said

Yes, that way i am searching for a solution, it takes so much time to filter between real ones, and bot ones to delete them!

do you have Akismet installed? Or Jetpack, or any other spam blocking plugin... they were pretty good few years ago. Also, how many comments are you talking about? And do you have more than 1 site? Because managing few comments a week that might slip through can be deleted manually

Comments are rarely useful for seo these days imo unless your site gets a lot of high quality real comments.

Just edit the settings to someone with email id submitted can post it. Can't recall the exact way to it but I did by going to "settings" in admin dashboard and it works just fine with out a plugin.

No, i have none of those plugins installed, are they useful in this situation? i have only one blog, l am getting about 50 spam comments a day, so i have to keep filtering, like you said it doesn't take so much time, but it's so annoying to keep going through them every day!

Google does not value user generated content. Update your content yourself. Turn the comments off. If your readers want to get in touch with you, it might be better to use email, install a live chat plugin, install a forum plugin/software, or use social media. 1% of website visitors might leave a blog comment anymore.

However, if you REALLY want to keep comments on and you want to try to filter spam:

I’ve been a spammer for a long time. Captcha is ineffective for the most part with the exception of a couple types. If you can install kcaptcha or hcaptcha that will probably stop the spam. I have not come across any software that can solve kcaptcha without sending it to a paid service and no spammer is going to pay for blog comments. Hcaptcha is close to being solved by software which is available to the general public. So kcaptcha is your best bet.

Thank you man, i think that you are right, even when browsing other blogs, i don't see comments enabled.
For now, i am going to keep them enabled, i am going to give kcaptcha a shot.

I've tried Akismet and Cleantalk but spam still got through. So I installed Antispam Bee plugin and I now only get legitimate comments on my blog.

I also use custom patterns to filter out a few weird comments that get through ASB: https://github.com/Zodiac1978/custom-patterns-asb

With those two, I no longer receive even a single bot comment.

Hey, why don't you replace the comments section with plugins like Disqus or Facebook Comments plugin? These plugins are very useful to prevent the spam in your website. You can also have akismet plugin to fight the spam but my recommendation is using Disqus plugin for sure.

Actually i am not raking in SERPs yet,, that's why all my traffic is from facebook and pinterest, so that will be helpful for me too, thanks again for you juicy answers

They already told me that it's not that good when it comes to filtering spam comments, Disqus might be a better option!
