Is there any flexibility with engagement campaigns?

Previously I've been under the impression that we could run an engagement ad, gather some social proof, then reuse that same ad in a maximize conversions style campaign. However, Facebook won't let me change the campaign objective, nor can I reuse the ad post in a new campaign.
That said, am I missing something or is that I'm trying to do not possible?

You don't substitute objectives, what you do is get the post ID for the engagement ad and when creating the conversion ad you use the "existing post" function and add the post ID that is full of engagement
