Facebook IP tracking and interesting login "challenge"

This is new and shows facebook is keeping track of IPs to some degree, although they still probably can't figure out a good automatic method to filter legit from fake.

Anyway, I logged into an account from a new IP and was fine then logged out and about an hour later tried to log back in and got a normal "challenge" to verify birthday. This often happens where you can log in fine from a new IP and then for whatever reason, the IP triggers a response on a later login.

Anyway, I in addition to the normal birthday challenge, I got this new thing "Step 3" asking me to confirm the earlier login. What's interesting is if you click the "guess" link, it displayed the IP of my earlier login.

No big concern, but just shows FB is keeping track of the login IPs and in the future may try to get more aggressive with the info.

i've never seen this yet, you have been used that account on some really shit proxy or you're right

It's definitely new... it's not a "flagged" IP thing as it's a major shared cable provider IP that I don't get challenges on in my other accounts (100's).

My guess is FB is "testing" something to roll out later.

The "new" FB layout I saw in one of my accounts 4 months ago so that seems like their MO. Test out new ideas sparingly then roll it out later.

Also, two days ago I made an account, lets say for East Coast, I then made one for something west of it, dont remember but had to be many miles away, and over 400 miles from me, they suggested an account I made to be my friend. Flag went up for me that they are tracking IP's and knew I was from the same town as the other person. I forgot to look at the reason they suggest that person as a friend, it usually says why.

no big change
just a little layout changes
