Traffic shown in tools are WAY off compared to console.

So I've been getting some success lately on my website. On semrush the keywords I'm ranking for are bringing me 518 visits a month and they value that a $2.4k. Ahrefs says 714 visits and $1.4 dollars(lol, these keywords are not competetive)

But then I go to Google search console and it says that I've only got 140 clicks THE ENTIRE TIME I've been doing this. Since November.

What gives, and what should I follow.

These keywords are low-competition city pages for the service I offer (unique content and optimized really fucking well). So I'm thinking the map pack eats up most of the clicks these tools think I should be getting but even then the difference is absurd.

I think these tools just have wildly inaccurate traffic numbers and I spent last month writing content for keywords that don't get any traffic...

What are your thoughts on this?

No webmaster that worths his salt would take the traffic report of his website from a third-party source that isn't connected in anyway to your website.

All I'm saying is you can't take the numbers supplied by any tool that has no way of tracking traffic on your site. You don't have any of their codes installed, why then do you expect them to be spot on? Google search console is what you should take seriously after all it's their data.

Just so you know, Ahrefs and semrush have a way of generating website traffic estimates, they have specific formulas which are actually different for each platform.

The problem with that, as am exmaple is that you have a page that is on position 52. From experience I can bet my both balls such page gets zero traffic, but with a formula like the ones used by either of those tools such a page would have a traffic of 0.1, 0.5 or 0.*(zero point whatever). If you have enough of such pages it starts to amount a whole number, making you feel you actually have traffic but in reality the formula is just manufacturing figures.


In a nut shell, only use those tools for other research data they provide to you(position, keywords, backlinks, competitors etc etc) and not for your website's traffic data. It just makes no sense judging your site's traffic from such tools.

Yea I'm getting the same experience. How do I do keyword research and how do I make decisions for my content when all of these tools give wrong estimations?
I'm thinking the GSC queries and impressions in the best place to start.

GSC is your answer, at least, that's what I use.

They don't always give wrong estimates. Don't take their traffic estimates too seriously, but their keywords data could be trusted. GSC can't give you the kind of data either of Ahrefs or Semrush would give you.

You just need to know how to combine all these tools together to work for your own good.
