Hello,
My site was issued a manual penalty for "Thin Content". All our rankings dropped off. I'm reaching out to the community to see if anyone has experience in resolving this issue. Below are details of what I have done so far with no luck....
I initially submitted a reconsideration request without making any changes to the site. Once we were denied, I read their guidelines and several other articles on how to fix the penalty. I exported all of our blog posts in Analytics that had 30 views or more in the last two months and I manually checked each post's content in Copyscape and Siteliner.
I rewrote any lines or paragraphs that could even possibly be considered scraping. I unpublished 20 recently posted articles that could be considered too close to a preexisting topic that we've already published.
I sent DMCA letters to all of the websites (about 37) who scraped or copied our site's content verbatim. For those that didn't respond or delete their copied content (29 publishers), I filed a Copyright complaint to Google.
Thinking this would do the trick, I then submitted our second reconsideration letting them know everything we have done.
1. Checked for content that duplicates content on our site or elsewhere
2. Checked for thin content with affiliate links on my site
3. Checked for doorway pages or AI-generated content
4. Ensured our content ads value
5. Reported publisher's URLs who have copied our content
We were then denied again. They provide zero direct feedback on what exactly I should be looking at to fix my site.
I suspect that the issue may remain with celebrity fact articles that we have recently been focusing on creating. It is only recently that we have been focusing heavily on high search volume keywords and creating content around celebrities; using keywords in our H2 titles and etc. They have done really well, ranking in the top 5 for their search terms, often outranking much higher DR sites. And suddenly Google has an issue? Maybe we've over-optimized? We certainly don't keyword stuff. All the celebrity writings are between 1000-2000 words so there's no issue with actual "Thin Content" there. The concert review articles can sometimes be fewer words than 1000, but as I mentioned, I don't know why those would suddenly be an issue after 8 years of publishing them.
Hope that provides enough insight to what's been done so far.
Thanks for anyone's help.
