Questions about Google News

I got a blog accepted into Google News a few days ago.

Since they claim a news sitemap is not REQUIRED, i didn't bother doing one.

However, I am not experiencing those instant indexing advantages I hoped for.

Now I got a plugin for creating a news sitemap.

My question to anyone who has done this in the past is, can i submit normal articles to google news?
I know I CAN, but is it normal?

Does it really have to be news? I'm looking at posting info articles instead of news, but leveraging instant indexation.

Any harm in this?

Anyone with experience who did this in the past?/

Did you notice any traffic increase? what steps did you take in order to get the approval?
I'm working on a news site now, 30 posts so far and I wish to submit to G news myself.

It was a blog with 30 info articles that started in November. No new articles since February. I just submitted and waited, didn't have any expectations. It got approved in like 8 days, they never send an email, you have to check.

I did not see any traffic increase, and on news.google.com there's only the homepage and one article indexed.
Posted a few articles, and they show indexed in google, but not on news.

Seems you really have to use that sitemap.

I'm just not sure how to go about doing it for info articles, as that's my main objective, to index stuff quickly.
Everyone was talking about google news blogs, and how they index in 5 minutes.

I have a news website and I also did it just for the indexing. Regular articles also get the indexing benefit. My articles get indexed within 45 minutes. In my opinion, regularly posting and increasing the article frequency also helps even if you don't have news approval.

Thanks for the details, so you stopped adding new content in Feb, I think you should keep posting new stuff regularly and see whether G sends some good traffic.
Anyways, I know some people are selling links from G news sites promissing they help with indexing new content.

Ok, so after creating a news sitemap, it seems google checks it every 5 to 8 minutes, and indexes anything news it finds.

You needn't bother about your news website anymore. Google has the finest algorithm to understand your blog. It easily detects news articles and publishes them. You can post articles, news, reviews, etc. They will be easily differentiated and shown accordingly. The only thing you need to ensure is the quality of your posts.

• News-worthy articles should be served from a separate subfolder than the blog like "/news"
  • Avoid publishing content like guides, how-to, or informational articles in general
• NewsArticle schema should be implemented. Although Article schema is fine as well you need to make sure to markup some important and news-relevant fields into it
• Publish daily!
• Create and submit a news sitemap to GSC
• Publish content using multiple authors and not just one
  • Also make sure each of those authors has their own, unique, relevant, and fully optimized author/bio page
• Make sure the content is "crawlable"

Again, submitting the site to Google News Publishing Center is NOT required but it's advisable.

And that´s pretty much it!

You're spot on for the normal approach to this.

However, my intent is different as there's no news on my website.

I just wanted the benefits. They do come indeed, but I only saw them after creating a dedicated sitemap for news.
You can ping it every 5 minutes and crawlers come like magic.

Again, for a normal news website, it's not needed. I just wanted to index 200 articles/day. It's working.
