I've absolutely loved eating street food in India. Yes, it may not always be totally hygienic, but, that aspect results in building a stronger immunity.
5 star, 7 star hotels often score low in terms of hygiene although you may be served in plates and glasses made of crystals, spoons & forks made of gold. I have friends who are executive chefs in leading star hotels, restaurants and they tell me off the record about how food is cooked, stored and processed in 5 star, 7 star hotels and hearing all that has made me keep away from such "star" hotels & "star" restaurants and happily enjoy and relish street food, as I prefer to maintain a top class "7 star" immunity level and guess what ? I always eat with my bare hands. Street food is any day more hygienic than the food served in 5 star, 7 star hotels / restaurants, whether in India or anywhere else. Anyways each one to their own.
