So my competitor's domain has expired today and he didn't renew it :o , I tried to register it but it seems it's still not available, I googled it and found out that once a domain expires it goes into a grace period, giving the owner 30 days chance to renew it, after that it goes into auction , so what I want to know, is there a way for me to register it before it goes into auction ?

Yes, you can use a domain broker.

I don't know about other web hosts, but using there's an area in mine where you deposit $20 and then it locks in your ability to attempt to purchase an expiring domain once it's available to do so.

What's the cheepest domain broker ?

Where is the domain registered now? It will go to auctions one way or the other.

Broker won't help you at this point. The only thing they will do is to notify your competitor that he forgot to renew the domain.
