Do you beleive in horoscopes ?

I don't believe 100%, but for certain there is something there. Things happen for a reason.

For example some people born under the same zodiac sign have a similar behavior. Astrology and numerology profit from this "bug" or "feature".

My pot-smoking brother was the guy writing those behind a well-known local news media agency.

He said the best fun was to read comments on social media where people gave their feedback about how true these predictions were.
This is some true hidden reality from a insider.

There are 7.8 billion people on earth. There will always be some people who have the same zodiac sign and behavior.

It has got nothing to do with astrology, its just a numbers game.

Yes. Not in horoscopes that you can find in newspapers tho, it's just bullshit. Astrology is serious science. being the oldest science on the Earth it gives astrology more credibility, not less. We have a bunch of scientific prooves that the civilization on the Earth was once much much much more developed than what we have today. I know it's an unpopular opinion, it's easier to just go with "it's not scientific, you are savage or religious fanatic if you think otherwise", but we have evidence in abundance that points strongly in another direction.

There are many things that make astrology very curious, to say the least. maybe the most mind-blowing connection between the so-called Platonic Year and the procession of the equinox. When, for example, someone says the Earth is in the sign of Pisces, it means that when you watch towards the exact East from the equator you will see the constellation of Pisces. Well, the catch is that one Constellation lasts roughly 2000 years. People who invented astrology in a time unknown to us knew about the Platonic year, that is the period of 24920 years named after Plato who was the most prominent scholar to write about the phenomena. So we know that the knowledge about it was much older. Even most curious is that some mystery schools suggested that it is not only a period in which the Earth is going through all the astrology signs, but it is also the period that the Solar system needs to orbit around the Sirius system (our science is not there yet).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Year
The question remains, how the so-called primitive man could notice the changes in the position of the stars when for the change of 1% the period needed is 72 years. it cannot be done by just watching. They also need to conclude that stars will make a full circle and return to the initial position, so they really needed to watch the sky for 25k years to evident this if they notice the pattern from the first time, which is hard to believe.

The science of astrology is based on extremely advanced knowledge from the time unknown. It shows not only remarkable knowledge of the planetary systems and starts but of the human psyche and Jung's archetypes as well (astrology signs = basic archetypes of the mind). when someone goes deep into astrology he will inevitably conclude that it wasn't made by the savages but by the people that were much much much more advanced than the civilization that we have on the Eart today.

The natural reaction to this post is mocking, but I am ready to debate :)

Something doesn't become correct by virtue of being old. The litmus test is "does it actually work"?

but we have evidence in abundance that points strongly in another direction.

Evidence basically means there's no actual proof. As you said, it's an old gig. So if it worked, there would have been concrete proof.

a) The Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations (where astronomy has its roots) weren't primitive.

b) The ancient fascination with astronomy means that they kept detailed records for many many years. Considering that the first Egyptian dynasty began about 5300 years ago, it's obvious that there's no mystery involved; tons of observations and then you extrapolate.

No, you are just too easily impressed. There is no need to imply the existence of some hidden civilization that had invented airplanes and Netflix. Ancient astrology doesn't require some kind of "out of the world" technology to exist. It's observations and sophisticated scholars.

In other words, ancient people weren't just "farmers and warriors". That's easy to see if you study the ancient text - it very soon becomes obvious that there existed a high level of sophistication in the mind in various circles of the societies of the time.

Are you sure that you are not the one too easily impressed by the prevailing "scientific" narrative? That narrative could be just a theory. Unproven. And it ti just a theory based on the info scientist had 100 or more years ago. Yet our civilization is built on an unproven theory. It happens. In the dark age, people believed in geocentric Earth, saying that the Earth is not the center of the Cosmos was pure craziness at that time, yet we now know that it wasn't true.

Something doesn't become correct by virtue of being old. That's true, but we have archeological proof in abundance all over the world that civilization much better developed than ours existed on this planet. I could write a few books on the themes. For example, this site in Bolivia is made of granite that can be cut just with diamond tools. By the prevailing narrative, people who live in Bolivia had stone axes as their biggest achievement. Who built those structures?

If we know that a civilization much better than ours already existed on this planet could some of their knowledge survive the apocalypse that almost deleted that civilization from the earth? Astrology is not a lone wolf, there are many ancient disciplines with mind-blowing knowledge. Acupuncture is even more mysterious. It works, my friend just healed his long-standing allergy that doctors were unable to solve. And if you study acupuncture just for a few hours you will be blown away by the precision of the data about the so-called energy body, meridians, and hundreds of thousands of energy centers that ancient have about the energetic system of the body. Our science doesn't even recognize thetype of energy that they are talking about in mind-blowing precision. Acupuncture is at least 5k years old.

When we talk about the star, you didn't understand anything. I will take the blame, English is not my native language, so it could be my fault. Your argument that Egyptians and Mesoptaims kept written records doesn't apply here. In this case, they needed to keep the record for at least 100k years to successfully solve the problem. That is the bare minimum. It is not a guy who is watching the stars and he decided to write its positions. Cmon, try it. How would you write the position of the star? how can you notice it moved? How on earth would you notice that star moved if it needs 72 years to travel just1% of the circle? how would you notice that the pattern in with it moves is a circle if the whole circle lasts 24920 years?

Go out, take a paper and pen, oh sorry you will not have paper and pen a few thousand years ago, take a stone and a bone and try to scientifically describe the position of the stars, then come back to talk.

Are you sure that you are not the one too easily impressed by the prevailing "scientific" narrative?

Yes.

That narrative could be just a theory. Unproven.

Were you born yesterday? Your lifestyle as you know it exists due to science. Cars? Fridge? PC? Internet? Electricity at home? Literally everything you take for granted.
Otherwise you'd be living in a hut, like a 16th century peasant. And be dead by 35.

The scientific method is proven correct based on its results. Once can claim to be the world's best marketer but it's what on the bank account that matters. And science has been 100% on the money. Super easy to understand, no need for any fancy education.

If tomorrow there existed some magic that defies scientific understanding and gets better results, we'd drop science and move to magic in a jiffy. Until then, science it is.

Something doesn't become correct by virtue of being old. That's true, but we have archeological proof in abundance all over the world that civilization much better developed than ours existed on this planet.

Better? So you're saying they had cars and mastered the earth, flew around to Paris for cocktails and traveled to the other hemisphere for summer vacations?

I could write a few books on the themes. For example, this site in Bolivia is made of granite that can be cut just with diamond tools. By the prevailing narrative, people who live in Bolivia had stone axes as their biggest achievement. Who built those structures?

Some ancient people. It's not like ancient people were dumb. On the other hand, it's rock - it ain't no sublime material that came out through advanced technological processing or whatnot.

If we know that a civilization much better than ours already existed on this planet could some of their knowledge survive the apocalypse that almost deleted that civilization from the earth?

As the Spartans said to Alexander's father, "if".

Again, it's about results. Anything that works if good. But when it comes to comparison, do people dare relinquish modern medicine and never step on a hospital again? No? I wonder why. Do you think it is because they are dumb and misguided? Or is it that perhaps that there's no better alternative to it?

It is actually really easy. But first, some math:

1% of a circle is 3.6 degrees.
1% every 72 years, means 0.05 degrees per year.

Now, let's imagine an ancient temple - remember that astrology/astronomy was the field of the priest class back then.
That temple has an open space at its top for observing the starry sky. Let's suppose the opening is a square with a side of about 10 meters. That's not too much, the outer circle of Stonehenge is 10 times bigger. And Stonehenge is located at "the backwaters" of the ancient civilizations, so my little imaginary temple is practically nothing for the scale of Egypt. Also, let's set the temple's dome at 17 meters high.

Ok, so, we have a fixed point at the temple floor from which we watch the sky. And we have a pole there and at 2 meters we place a glass surface. We stand below and look at the sky through the glass. Glass was invented 5500 years ago, so no problem there.

1. As we stand below the glass at a fixed spot, we place markings on the glass when our line of sight meets the dome edges. So we know where the "sky" is enclosed. 2. Then we select a nice big star. To be able to have its location, we need to take 3 linear measurements for 3 different points. So we use a ruler and measure the distances from 3 edges of the dome (we marked them on the glass before). We note the triad down.
3. We repeat the process for all the stars we care about.
4. We can now trivially draw the exact position of the stars in a papyrus, by reversing the process (i.e. draw lines based on the triplets we recorded).

Well, that takes care of taking a snapshot of the starry sky. But what about noticing the movement? Easy.

We're coming back the following year to take another snapshot of the sky. Time for some more math:

Remember that our distance from the dome is 17-2=15 meters.
So what we see from the dome is a "window" on a virtual sphere with radius of 15 meters. Now since for our purposes we don't need any 2D calculations, let's take a circle of that sphere (like slicing a lemon).
The circumference of the corresponding circle is 2πr -> 2*3.14*15m = 94.2m
The sky rotated 0.05 of a degree. That means that there's a triangle from out fixed position to the old Polaris position and the current Polaris position.
To find the distance from the old Polaris position to the new Polaris position, it's trigonometry.
I'll save you the calculations, in our setup it moved a little bit more of a centimeter.

That means, that the stars that were very close to the edge of the dome last year, are not visible this year. One centimeter may seem low, but if your job is to note the positions of the stars and you have archives, it's trivial to notice sooner or later that something's moving. No need to wait for 72 or ...24920 years.

Go out, take a paper and pen, oh sorry you will not have paper and pen a few thousand years ago, take a stone and a bone and try to scientifically describe the position of the stars, then come back to talk.

No need, the papyrus about 5000 years ago. And if we take its construction process in mind, there was probably a precursor to it, so we've been out of the bone business for quite a bit now.

I dont believe but some times its fascinating. Sometimes true, or sometimes one makes up things to satisfy himself that it works!

Yes.

Sorry, I just skimmed through, your pretentious attitude connected with your lack of right arguments doesn't deserve careful reading and more time. You are not even close to understanding what was I trying to say.

Why are you exactly trying to prove to me that we own the existence of cars to the science? Who denied that? What's wrong with you? Science is a good thing, but science is not without its mistakes, especially in history. There are many things that are just theories and work models, yet people are taking it as it is proven. Science is far from being almighty and having the answer to anything. we don't even give the cure for cancer. No one is against science, but the scientific approach is exactly to recognize that something is or is not 100% proven. Try to distinguish the scientific approach from the prevailing narrative, it is not the same.

"

The point is that you cannot notice that kind of slow movement with the naked eye. Something that moves so slow looks like don't move at all. Also they cannot know the pattern of the movement is the circle until it finishes the circle so they were unable to do the math you are suggesting.

The rest I didn't read, it's just gibberish and arrogant brain farts without any arguments.

Horoscopes are used by astrologers as "horror"scopes in order to monetize their (so called) "knowledge" of the sun(s), moon(s), planet(s) and universe(s).
Like the 3rd Eye Of "Nirmal Baba".
Horoscopes, astrology, etc we are not sure of 100%. But, what you are 100% sure about is that at this moment you are alive and breathing and able to do something towards your goals, so do that and believe in yourself and keep believing in yourself and keep doing to the best of your abilities, on an ongoing basis.

So you say horoscopes are only BS?

Not really, I think horoscopes are too vague and generic.

Not all Aries want to climb a mountain or do risk sports, or jump from bed to bed, etc.

its been a time of my teen years where i really believed in this, now i think it was only because we found interesting quotes about our horoscope just to impress others on socials and make ourselves belief that we were like that, i really dont believe in this.
