Is doing ad arbitrage still possible?

Hello guys
I have a website with an ePMV of around $80 for US desktops. (Some days it drops to $50 or $60, since it is still being optimized, but I expect it to be $80 in the long run).

At the beginning I thought that with such a high ePMVp I could successfully do ad arbitrage.

To my surprise, none of the platforms I've tried has worked.

Reddit or Quora - the min bid is 10 cents or higher for the US

Facebook- I can't find the option to target desktops only. I think they have removed it.

Google display network- I had a CPC of around 20 cents, with a 60% bounce rate. Definitely impossible to make a profit from it

Taboola + propeller ads: I tried both at a CPC of about 4-5 cents but they only sent crappy traffic


What can I do?
Do you have any ideas?

Bidding on FB is silly imo as that's probably the most expensive traffic source given the high quality of traffic.

Keep trying lower quality display networks that are not known for conversions.

I'd try Snapchat for this and maybe iterate on GDN and the natives.

Stay away from Twitter - clicks are expensive.

I tried google display network and failed, as I already pointed out.

As for thr low quality networks, I've read many posts saying they work but only after you have excluded // black-listed all the sites sending bot/crappy traffic.
How could I do that? Do you know any site where I could find a spreadsheet of sites to backlist?

Also, correction to my last comment on FB - if you only do audience network you might be able to get some cheap traffic. Just stay off newsfeed placements, etc.

Nice to see a new member making such progress in a short amount of time honestly. It's uncommon. You're the future of this forum and you'll probably end up to be quite successful. Keep at it.

Unfortunately I have been working on these projects quite long, longer than I would have liked, and lately I am a bit pessimistic, feeling they are going to fail (I don't know how to acquire traffic in a profitable way, and in order to do SEO I must have a deep pocket).

On Facebook? Yeah there's a desktop option but its really hidden right now with the current UI. One of my reps and I were chatting about that on a call the other day, but it's there.

SEO - meh. It's not all that great. It's a decent way to get free traffic if you want to write a lot of content. It's not costly, just takes time. Backlinks are not needed. Anyone doing big numbers does it with paid channels, not organic.

At the ad group level, under "mobile devices and specific operative systems" the only option I am shown is to target mobile phones by their OS, but I don't see the desktop option anywhere

Also, from your experience and knowledge, how much do you think a click from FB's audience network could cost?
And how much traffic could I realistically pull per day from there?

That's a good idea, but it doesn't really look like it is sustainable

If I create several accounts and use the same billing info in each of them, I guess twitter will eventually find out.

Their traffic is good only for certain type of ads and products. Display traffic is mostly good for awareness, it won't bring as many clicks as social ads.
