First thing you should do is check the keyword that you want to rank for by doing a search on it. Take a look at how many backlinks the top 5 people have in yahoo site explorer. That will give you an idea of what 150 backlinks will do. If they have 5000 and their sites are SEO'd properly then you probably won't see the first page. If they have 10 you might out rank them.

How important are backlinks? I'm relatively new to this entire SEO world. It's very interesting. I recently purchased a domain name and hosting plans. But, what good would content be, if nobody visits your site -- not because they don't want to, but because they don't know about it.

How effective is an order for 150 Backlinks to a new site? Perhaps I'm asking the wrong question, but try to think from a novice's standpoint. In simple terminology, what would 150 backlinks do for me?

I have question. Here we go: I want to rank #1 for a keyphrase (two words). My competition is an inner page of a pr 5 site. The inner page does not have a page rank but it is on the #1 spot with 1089 backlinks. How can I get on the #1 spot for this keyphrase using this service? Have site for 6 months now, keyphrase is not in the domain, but have all other onpage seo done. Any advice would be appreciated, especially from Ninjutsu.

Do you use websiteoutlook to see how many backlinks a site has, or is there a more accurate method?

I just use yahoo site explorer. I don't think there is any accurate method of finding that info, but its very close to actual amount. Websiteoutlook is definitely offtrack with my stats, I wouldn't use websiteoutlook to do anykind of research.

I'd check where did that guy get majority of his backlinks from and will try to get backlinks from the same type of sites. If it's from blogs, I would use tools like Scrapebox to do the job. I won't stop adding backlinks until I get the #1 spot. If he is adding backlinks to his inner page consistently, then you have a lot more work to do. But I highly doubt so since most would just stop building any backlinks once they attained #1 spot.

Try to get a mix of backlinks from different sources. Profiles, high PR blogs, blog commenting, forums, articles, etc. The reason why you're not at #1 yet is because you're not building backlinks to your site consistently. It's that simple.

Thats what we'd do too. But really, getting into the top 10 depends on many other factors. If you're working on MFA sites, you'd want to get yourself out of the trouble for targeting very generic keywords so you'll have a better chance to rank in the top tens.

But if you're trying to get your e-commerce site to rank for very generic keywords, you have no choice but to build backlinks to your site consistently--just like how a company would set a side a budget for advertising every month. You want to rank higher? Get more backlinks. That's really no short cut to it.

Thanks Jericho for answering that Question for me. :)

We only use Yahoo site explorer and sometimes, backlinkwatch.

market samurai tells the most info from my experience

The backlinks report from MS is from Yahoo site explorer. :)

Well, got my report in today and its all looking very good. Profiles are live with backlinks and Ninjutsu has even set up a little story about me :) to make it more believable. Good work, thanks

I've replied to your PM, Miamimoe.

edit: I noticed that your #1 and #2 URL is different from #3. So the method suggested in the PM won't work.

We'll get it changed for you asap.

Ninjutsu, will there be a special rate for longterm/monthly customers? I'm interested, I'm sure there are others that will be interested as well.
