Hey everyone.

This one may not be anything revolutionary but I get spammed with many emails daily from people selling me SEO, web design, app development, logos, etc.

I really screwed up 15 years ago by being a cheap kid and not getting whois protection. My email will forever be spammed haha.

Judging by how many emails they're sending out, they are likely getting these details from people selling them the same database over and over again.

I bet they still get sales, but that's not going to be the style of this journey.

I have used Paigham Bot and GSA Contact Form Submitter. Both have landed me clients, but the results have me thinking of taking an approach with custom tailored cold emailing.

With many people wondering how to get SEO clients, I'm launching this journey/case study to see whether it can be pulled off in 2022.

The mission is to reach 10 clients through cold emailing. I am likely going to need more leads to accomplish this but I can't be spending too much time on leads from the very beginning without seeing if this is going to work in the first place.

Once I achieve results for multiple clients, getting them to record video testimonials is likely going to make future sales easier.

Starting an SEO Company

I already have an SEO company, but what I'm going to do is create a specialized SEO agency. It's going to be made for just one niche.

If you think about it, let's say I have an SEO agency specifically made for scuba divers, that is definitely going to get the attention of scuba diving companies when they consider different SEO companies.

If I'm a scuba diving instructor, I'm going to go with the agency that understands my business and specializes in it.

So I'm going to take this same approach.

I've got the website built out and email accounts created.

Getting Leads

I put together this list of 160 leads together myself. I have been building it out for quite some time now.

You can however use various lead services, SaaS or freelancer sites.

This is the information that I have acquired:
  • owner's name
  • business name
  • email address
  • city
  • phone number
  • website
The most important part to this journey is writing a personal note for each lead.

This part is the most arduous and one that has taken the most time.

For each lead, I am adding an extra column into my Excel spreadsheet that has a personalized sentence that regurgitates something from their bio.

This is to show the lead that it's a personal email and that I'm not some spammer.

Email Structure

Hi [FULL NAME],

[PERSONAL MESSAGE]

[Short message highlighting results we've gotten for someone else]

[Message asking them to book a meeting]

Thank you,

Sending Out Emails

There are many email softwares out there that can accomplish this goal.

For some reason, I like using WoodPecker so that's what I'm going to use for this journey.

It allows me to import my contacts and map out my Excel columns to automate the emails.

I am going to set up follow up emails depending on whether the lead opens the email or does not.

Conclusion

Some things may go wrong with this experiment.

For instance, there may be something in this niche that I am overlooking and maybe they have different lead generation methods that work better.

The niche I chose isn't as popular as lawyers, dentists, chiropractors, realtors, etc. but I want to choose a smaller niche that isn't under constant cold calling and cold emailing duress.

I'll also have to monitor open rates to see how good my subject line is performing and whether I need to switch it up for the other remaining leads.

Tomorrow will be the first day that my emails go out.

Let's see how this goes!

Good luck with your journey.

An "easy in" for you is analysing if they spend on ads and the tech used on your prospects site.

Why ads?
You know these are guys who spend money on advertising their site, pointless targeting people who wont pay.

Why tech analysis?
You can explain a simple problem they are having and fix it for them, build trust and then upsell seo.

Totally understand. This niche that I'm targeting isn't very large so they also don't spend on ads as much as the other niches do.

That definitely is a good way of doing it for a lot of niches.
