You can learn graphic design, and that's a good thing, but don't learn it for Redbubble, it isn't worth the effort. Most people make money mass uploading designs (1,000 designs/month). Check youtube tutorials for how to create mass designs for Redbubble.

For example, I understand that I could use images from Canva and Pixbay since they are free of copyright, right?

SEO takes time, and it's never for broke people. Try some easier methods before going into SEO.
