When you buy a link on a donor page and there are 50 other advertisers on that exact same donor page, the pagerank flowing through to that donor page is split between your website and the 50 other advertisers. So while you may think you're getting a lot of benefit you would instead be much better off looking for medium sized websites which have zero or a relatively low amount of advertisers where there is more pagerank to go around as the split is between fewer advertisers.
Lots of pagerank + too many outbound links = bad
Lots of pagerank & few outbound links = good
If the website appends rel="nofollow", rel="sponsored" or rel="ugc" to your link then stop paying for it.
No pagerank = no pay.
Always take into account how pagerank is flowing through a website.
