Not necessarily.. Some shitcoins have made some people a ton of money.

I would say shitcoins are altcoins that sprout up with a lot of hype, but in the end, having no real foundation or use case, either away. You can make a lot of money if you are early on a shitcoins, and sell when the ovation is loudest.

All cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin are referred to as Altcoins (alternative coins). They get their moniker from the fact that they're Bitcoin and regular fiat money alternatives.
The term "shitcoin" refers to cryptocurrency that is both useless and worthless. Shitcoins lack functionality and for this reason they lack longevity in trade too

Shit coins are shitty coins, coins that could moon today and rig tomorrow. In my books all meme coins are shit coins.

Alt coins on the other hand are coins of solid projects that are highly regarded in the crypto space, Ethereum is an alt coin. As someone mentioned up above, they're all respectable coins excluding Bitcoin.

The reason for this kind of name(altcoin) is because initially cryptocurrencies, coins or cryptos is synonymous with Bitcoin. When someone mentioned cryptocurrency the very first coin that comes to mind js Bitcoin, so Bitcoin became the standard. Every other equally respectable coin is now regarded as altcoin.

The altcoins that are scams towards a rug-pull are known as shitcoins.
All shitcoins are altcoins, but all altcoins are not shitcoins.
If one knows how to study the tokenomics of a coin, it is easy to know whether an altcoin is a shitcoin or not.
