Most people publish Open Source so they are not responsible for bugs.

But if you want to turn your software that you wrote for yourself into real software for sale, how good is good enough?

Have the least amount of features possible per release. Auto test them for confidence (ex: Jest). “Second System Syndrome” is real.

It can be defined exactly since it depends on what you consider as good enough and with which level you would be satisfied. The idea is not to be too perfectionist about it as it will slow down the process as you'll never be happy enough because that's your product and you want to make it as best as possible. But, don't be too harsh, the software shouldn't contain any bags and have to function smoothly but it doesn't need to be completely perfect and smooth for you to start selling it.

What you could do is offer a minimal version and charge a low amount of money first. Then, after your software gained traction, you add more and more features and increase the price.

I often do that with my apps. Creating an MVP (minimum viable product), publish it, see how it goes and then add more features if possible.

One of the worst things you can do is to over-optimize your app/software and then figure out there is no demand, etc.

And someone mentioned it already, normally this is what beta testers are for. If you can't afford it, just make sure you publish a full working MVP, offer it for a low price and then keep working on updates/features

as long as you can fulfill customer basic demand, i think that's good enough. You can cooperate with people who have influence in the niche as both beta tester and marketer/affiliate.
