[Answered] Will a backlink from Wikipedia make a difference in 2022?

Hello BHW community, I hope you all are doing great.

I usually ask questions here, but for a change I wanted to report on a little experiment I did.

I am certain that most of you already know that even a no foll0w backlink from Wikipedia is worth a lot, but I was able to monitor what exactly happens once you place the link of a certain page on Wikipedia.
At the time of this experiment the DR of the site was at 15.

1- A blog post about an "apple product update" was placed on our domain, as usual it did not experience any significant traffic.

Date of Publishing: 18th Jan 22​

Details:​

Word count: less than 400​

Images: 1​

Page load time: +6 sec​

2- Over the next week, it has only ranked on serp two or three days for 2 Keyword at most which created no clicks.
Ranking between 2nd and 9th.



3- On 24th of January this page was linked to a relevant Wiki page.

4- Now, a month later, the Page ranks for 10 Keywords, with 40+ weekly clicks (peak was 80 per week) and ranking between 1st and 3rd for all those Keywords. It has outranked pages with twice as much DR and a lot more traffic.

Conclusion:

You can rank a page easily with a Wiki backlink, even if you are having low quality content, low Authority and slow page speed. ​

Downside with Wiki links is they are easy to get removed.

Anyone with editor access can even switch out anchors etc.

There are people selling these for $60-99 and offering 30 or 50 days replacement warranty and they're basically reselling $10 services.

How did you get the Wikipedia link?

I used my home dynamic IP, I made a fresh account and edited a page that is not in English nor is it visited much.
Further more consider linking it to a page which is exactly about the topic. So if an Admin sees it, they would most probably approve of it since it is actually a relative citation.
I nearly forgot, so when you made your Wiki profile, you find the article go to a relevant part edit it and make a citation and add your link as a source, I am sure you can find tutorial online.

Easy money. This was an easy backlink to make and now is around 20 days old, I will update here if it is gone.
I wonder if I should keep making more of these with other emails and accounts.

This isn't entirely accurate, ranking a webpage 'easily' with Wikipedia is only fantasy in my opinion. I have wiki links to different pages, pages I would consider good quality but they're not ranking the way you claim. The ones who rank have better backlinks alongside the ones from Wikipedia.

The nice thing about Wikipedia links is they sometimes attract other backlinks that could also be of help, while most of them are usually wiki links that were automatically created, a few are not.

If you're getting Wikipedia links for very cheap price or free it's 'worth' but if you're paying high, you might as well look elsewhere.

Wikipedia is high authority site & links from high authority website always helps to rank better no matter links are nofollow or ********.

When you get backlink from Wikipedia page you're not getting only link from that many other wikis & website embed wiki pages as it is and update regularly so you also backlink from those websites.
