I'd like to claim a username which has been inactive since 2016 which consists of 6 letters (6 seems to be the minimum amount of characters for most services to claim it).
I guess I have a couple options:

1) I try to find out who the real owner is and he sells me the account ( because trying to claim it after 2 weeks if he switches his name could still result in nobody being able to claim it for some reason? )
2) I trademark the name internationally for around 1K and try to request it myself. This might get more expensive as PR might be needed I guess?
3) I trust one of the few services here on BHW that claims to be able to have access to the Facebook Portal "aKa" they're partnered with Facebook but that's an instant 5K 'ish option.

Curious about the answers. If you have any experience regarding getting your desired username, please share as it's interesting.

It Could be inactive for years but you can not get the name because the acc still exist
Have you read my whole post? They can just snatch it if the account exists but is inactive. There are multiple ways to go about this but it's costly asf

The first option is the cheapest but the most time-consuming. And if the account is active, it makes it even more difficult to reach out to the owner but try your luck.

The second option is a mid-way but looks very dicey as claiming everything could be a hectic process and you might still need expert advice that could cost quite a bit.

The third option costs the most but could be the fastest way to acquire it if you find the guy to get it done for you.

Depending on what you value more, money or time, you can choose any of the three options. If the price feels too steep, just start with option 1 and then if it doesn't work, you can evaluate option 2 and jump to option 3.

Try the first one if you want to have any result

Thanks for your input! I'm thinking about it the same way

Yeah, guess I'll try that first. I managed to track down 2 of his possible friends. So might try to contact them and see if they still know the OG owner.

Trademark it in Germany. Then report it. You will probably get it.

p.s. Not my channel (I wish it was lol).

Yeah I've seen that video as well. That's the video that gave me the 2nd idea (trademark the name).
But idk how proven the trademark strategy is in general, however it's a very interesting strategy.

Just try with the German trademark db first. It should not cost you more than $300 or so. I think it will work just fine.

p.s. I completely trust that channel, and I have been subscribed to him for a while. I don't think he is bluffing.

He does seem genuine. Wouldn't it be weird if I'd trademark it in Germany without actually living there?
I'm also from the EU so maybe if I trademark it in my own country, it would have more or less the same effect?

$5k for an username claim is insanely expensive. Don't buy overpriced services.

True, so far I've gotten an 8K and 4K offer from 2 different people here on BHW but there's no way I'm going to spend that much.

Yeah, perhaps try the trademark database from your own country. I said Germany since that’s what liveoverflow did in his video. Even if this does not work, you won’t lose 4k.
