If you are looking to build a long-term business, this isn't for you, because it's platform-focused. The platform (RedBubble) owns your business, your customers, and in this case your inventory. Use this to build an income and then re-invest it in something that's more reliable.

Great post! I have prior experience with Redbubble and it wants too pleasant. Made around 100 designs, made cool store banners, etc. Then couple of designs got flagged by their auto-ban system, 2 weeks of communication with them and designs got back up and a week later they closed my store.

The biggest problem was that I wasn't using copyright content and everything was legit done by me.

On the other hand, they have copyright material on the first page - Spiderman, Marvel , Movie characters, etc. Complete bullshit. But if you have time and little to no money then this is a great way to start and the designs put on other POD platforms.

And you created a t-shirt design with some sporting logos, etc and you put just do it, bang copyright infringement.

Had this happen to me on ebay. A catch phrase was trademarked, got it, then found out there are trademark sites out there you can search to see if its got a global trademark.

Yes, I know that. Was prepping for the POD journey a long time, researched a lot - didn't include any copyright infringement in design, slogan, and even in keywords. Everything was as white hat as possible. Did double check on every design. The worst part of Redbubble is their support - no answers at all, long response time, and automated messages only. They don't care about new sellers because - why they should? They have runner-ups on the first page doing Spiderman designs that are selling like hotcakes.

For everyone that thinks about this - I would suggest Teespring. They have bigger profit margins and you won't have an auto-ban system coming for you. Even better go for Redbubble and Teespring at the same time. The downside of Teespring is that you have your own traffic at the start (first 5-10 sales) and after that, they do organically marketing. But anyway if you want to make more serious money with POD (Teespring, Etsy , Redbubble, etc.) you should build an outside social media audience, don't count on platforms' organic traffic.

I think that BS, they sound like money talks. Its the same with ETSY you can sell fake S__T all day long until a few people complain and your store just gets banned. It sounds like its super easy to mess with peoples store, could be a competitor doing this to you.

That's so true. I can see a copywright product in almost every category, that's also selling well

You can do that in Canva.

Regarding the link you shared, he joined in 2008 so he has that early mover advantage. Replicating this with a new account would be difficult. Still worth a try.

This is my Redbubble dashboard:

I made around $17 uploading around 95 designs (it took me 2 hours).
The best thing about RedBubble is that you don't need to bring your own traffic. They have a built-in system that promotes your designs.

Traffic Stats:

Whenever I uploaded the designs, Redbubble sent traffic my way to test my designs. I still get favorites by people looking at products on RB.
These are the messages from the past few days:

My Process (method):

• Find scalable quotes, for example - Coffee makes me Cold, {Niche} makes me Hot. These are the type of quotes where you need to change 1 word to turn it into a new design.​
• Create a simple design (text-based + some graphics)​
• Use automation software (I haven't tried any, so please don't ask me) to create + upload hundreds of these designs​
• If you find that some niches (with less competition) are selling well, then go hire a designer and make graphics-based designs for that niche.​

- It's pretty scalable to the point it can become a passive income source.

Hey guys I'm looking at giving this a go. But I would like to take it way more seriously and actually learn graphic design so I can create better tshirts. I would first upload to redbubble and teespring, and then use my winning designs to start my own shopify pod store. Of course, there will be some generic text-only designs as well, but most will require quite some time. Do you guys think it's worth the effort?
