SEO hack? Does linking to yourself really help?

I just saw on a FB group someone saying if you have a page stuck on the 2nd page of Google try this...

Say your page is www.DildosShapedLikeGoats.com/cheap-goat-dildos on that page you should link to yourself with an exact match anchor internal link.

As in <a href="www.DildosShapedLikeGoats.com/cheap-goat-dildos">cheap goat dildos</a>

Has anyone tried this? Seems like Google should exclude this but people are saying they've been using it for years.

Thoughts?

I don't know if it helps now but I know like 10 years ago, people used to do it a lot.
Never believed it worked back then so don't believe it would work now.

Backlinks are still an important signal for Google SEO but you have to do it differently, not like you were doing ten years before.

You have to focus on quality rather than quantity. Also, it hugely depends on the popularity of your website. What I mean to say is that if your website is new, try building a few links in a week and focus on content creation first.
