Should I use proxies all the time and remove footprints?

Remove what footprints?
Let's say I go to tumblr and create a few blogs there on my home IP... what's the problem?
You need proxies mainly when you need multiple accounts.

If you don't spam and don't need multiple accounts, it's safe to do everything through your home IP address.

for any backlinks,
should I use proxies all the time and clean footprints?
The only issue you may encounter is with certain providers like Cloudflare, that may detect your "suspicious" activity. Therefore you will need to solve captchas in order to go in and backlink

This is a big issue, specially when you are automating this linkbuilding process. But if you do it manually, it won't be a hassle, therefore, you don't need proxies (unless, you plan to create a ton of links in certain specific sites, which include account creation, they may detect your activity, and ban you complete, which is common, for example in forums)

You use proxies when you build multiple backlinks from multiple accounts from same device.
