Free forums and blogs for backliinking

There are plenty of websites where you can create your own blog or forum for free. What about employing them for backlinking? Has anyone tried that? How does it work?

Anything contextual. A backlink inside a piece of content. If it's d0 foll0w even better. Paid ones are, of course, the best

They do help to some degree but won't move the needle

It really depends on the niche.
1. social media... including reddit; free traffic so can't go wrong there
2. web2, and relevant forums, quora
3. guest posts and PR's
4. info/graphics and podcasts
but most importantly... I use competitors' analysis and "steal" their links.

It's quite easy TBH... I prefer to use weaker competitors for it as it's easier to replicate their links.
1. Identify weaker competitors (which rank, obviously)
2. Get a free trial of moz (or any other tool for links) and get a list of backlinks
3. Visit those links/sites and see if you can post there as well
It is a time consuming process but totally worth it.

Even if they have their links on website lists too? All of my competitors do have some backlinks on website lists (DR60+), 5$ per link, and in the form of an article. Is it worth following?

oh no, I wouldn't bother with website directories to be honest.
And... if you do go for some directories... don't pay a penny.... definitely not worth it.
For $5 you can get better links... some people sell links on their google news approved sites (which actually rank for 100-1,000 keyword) for $3-$5.

You can buy guest posts and niche edits from reputable members here on the forum. That would be your best bet besides building your own PBN network
