How do you use Twitter in a whitehat manner?

I'm aware this may be the wrong section but I am unsure where it would go.

So are there any threads about how to use twitter in a whitehat manner to advertise a site? Im talking about not blatant spamming or making multiple users, but how you can more than anything automate the process. Im a twitter noob though so maybe this is simple.

you can setup 2 twitter accounts if you want. One for yourself and one for your company/website.

customize your site twitter account with a nice background and tweet about subjects that are related to your site topic. post useful information on your site by making blog posts and tweet them. It will take a while but if the posts are unique, you should start getting users to follow you.

Make sure to put a "follow me" image on your website.

Never ever message people on twitter telling them about your service or product.

one of the best things to do is to simply join in the conversation. if you are actually replying to what people are saying and take the time to build relationships via twitter you can build a pretty strong following. just dont try to sell them anything until they get to your webpage or are on your email list. also, softselling or suggestion selling works best for twitter is what i have found.
