How to retrieve a hacked Instagram account?

I have a friend who's instagram account (personal) was hacked. The hacked managed to change the email and mobile number associated with it. Pretty crazy.

The hacker has sent DM's to all followers with a clear scam - offering $500 via cash app, apple pay etc. for the first 10 people to respond with any word beginning with Z and ending with P.

My question to any experts or anyone experienced in this problem - is there a way to retrieve the account or at least get it removed? We have tried to report the account with multiple friends , but Instagram are pretty useless.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Login to the original email the account was made with and find any email from Instagram with forgot password link. Click the link and you should be able to get back in. That’s how scammers used to sell accounts and then steal them back

Thanks, all sorted now. They managed to speak with Facebook in regards to it. They took the account down and asked for images of my friend to prove their identity - seems they are a bit more on the ball nowadays.

Recently a lot of people have been getting their accounts hacked on Instagram its feels like there is no security on the app
