How do you deal with procrastination?

That feeling of “This day is almost over, there’s no point in starting now, might as well start fresh tomorrow.”?
Clock is my motivation, I just keep on working, since the more I work, the faster time comes to quit.

It just means that whatever you have to do is not that important to you that's all. Nobody procrastinate eating when they haven't eaten for an entire week. Willing motivation into existence is BS you get motivated and disciplined by understanding the real reasons behind your actions / behind why you want to do certain things.

Pomodoro Technique :)
Funny you should mention that since I started using that technique just about a week ago. Since you brought it up, I’d like to ask how you’d ideally spend the 5-10 min of break? And how do you stick to just taking x mins of break? Is that where discipline comes in?

@clock is your motivation?

Jim Rohn talks about discipline a lot too. And I understand the concept.

However, how do you start to discipline yourself?

I'm going to go through that book, but wanted a heads up from someone who read it.

I am not disciplined compared to successful people that I know.
I did listened to this book a year ago and my memory is bad, it's just motivational speech to get you to try working harder and examples of what the wealthy and successful people doe during the day which normal people don't.

Brain Tracey writes all his books on the base of his masterpiece "Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating"
Which might have been even a better suggestion but I think that book is an easier read.

Anyway both these books are very short.

@clock é sua motivação?

I've been in this exact situation.

I have always had big ambitions and goals and clear direction, but I used to lack everything else that would get me there. I used to play a lot of video games, watch TV for hours and prefer just doing nothing to what I should be doing. I'd feel guilty about being lazy but the guilt was never enough to stop my bad habits.

Today, I hardly watch any TV and I never just sit around. I utilise every second I can to reach my goals.

It only took me about six months to get to this level of productivity from how I used to be.

What you need to develop is a drive, and the thing that jump starts a drive is passion. You need to be as passionate about your goals as you can be. You say that you're ambitious, so what exactly are your ambitions? Do you have a clear goal that you want to achieve?

And the big question, How much do you want it?

This is the thing that I couldn't answer well before. I wanted it, but how much? More than I wanted to relax, more than I wanted to sleep, more than I wanted that instant gratification? At the time, as much as I didn't want to admit it, the answer was no.

Na minha própria cabeça, comecei a me questionar, me perguntando se eu realmente queria.

Hey. I don't deal with it. I just adapt to it. I think there's almost always an underlying reason for our procrastination. If life is good, and work is going well, people don't have much of a reason to procrastinate (in most cases). However, if life is not going that hot, or things are a bit slow, then reasons start to appear in our brain to avoid reality and we procrastinate. I used to try to get rid of any sign of procrastination by forcing myself to do nothing but work, and it works.. for a while. I burnout and fall into months of procrastination as a result. I know this probably doesn't happen to most people but it does to me. So what I do now is I just give myself some free time during week days and work less, and that seems to work and I also avoid burning out. I also give myself 1 free day a week where I try not to touch anything work related to rest my brain.

Something that has helped me a lot with procrastination is planning.

Developing plan setting goals and forcing myself to fulfill those goals have helped me a lot.

When it comes to planning, I set my plans on monthly and daily plans.

Be as specific as possible when it comes to defining goals and try to "micro-task" as much as possible in order to achieve those goals.

The tools I use for this are Trello and Todoist.

Both tools are free to use and I just freaking love Todoist.

Also, as frivolous as this might sound, get ready to reward yourself when you fulfill a monthly goal. This is important.

I disagree with this. You're talking about a basic human need, it's like saying you won't procrastinate when going to pee after drinking 1 gallon of water. Yeah no shit. We humans don't live for survival anymore, we're not wild animals. In most countries people have everything they need to live for 80 years with decent health.

Also, I can understand every reason why I have to work, why it is the best way for me to live a really good life that I desire, and procrastinate anyways. We're creatures of habits, consciously understanding why we want, need or have to do things helps, but doesn't solve it.

What’s your secret to dealing with procrastination?

That feeling of “This day is almost over, there’s no point in starting now, might as well start fresh tomorrow.”?
Dude, it looks like I wrote this. But the important thing which I guess could help us is to sleep early, wake up early and discipline ourselves.

So that’s one place where I seem to waste a lot of time. How do you work your way up to a burst of motivation? I usually try and listen to songs to hype myself up and then I end up spending more time listening to music than I do on work.

I’ve also heard that motivation is overrated and that discipline is key. What’re your thoughts on this? Appreciated.
I wouldn't know, I have none.

I too struggle with undiagnosed ADHD so everything is a battle. as for motivation, i guess it depends on what really gets you motivated the most. Sometimes music or videos work, but 80% of it is in your head. You have to get excited! That's the key for us. We have to be excited. Thats why we're so productive on new projects but teeter off later on.

I also like Todoist. This sort of relates to my frequent task time list method I talked about on page 1 of this post.

Work as if the day you are in is your last and at midnight you die.
You know you want to leave those behind with a legacy and if you do not sort it out today then they will have nothing.
What will they do - and think of you?
At least you can wake up tomorrow and start again - with the same thoughts.

If I'd know that I'll die at midnight my legacy would be an empty pizza box, an empty bag of cocaine, and a dead hooker.
