Does Tiered Link Building Still Work in 2022?

I remember using Matthew Woodwards tiered link building guide in 2013, 14,15 to rank sites very successfully (start with a combo of 2.0s and super 2.0's, use gsa to build tiered links pointing to them, then add in manual link building).

Is it still viable in 2022 using this kind of method and GSA?

Yes tiered linking is working. Think about t1 quallity first.

Tier 2 super web 2.0s & manual web 2.0's?
Tier 3 and beyond - GSA?
 
Yes, but you want to make sure your tier 2 links aren't trash. I have clients who absolutely crush it with tiered link building. Example of how successful campaigns are structured:

Tier 1 links (DR 40+)
Tier 2 links - 2-3 DR 10+ pointed towards each tier 1 link. A mix of generic anchors works just fine (click here, this article, more here, read here).
 
Would the DR 40 tier 1 links be on web2.0 sites or owned domains? Or both?

Did anyone manage to set up a good scalable workflow for the T2's? What defines a T2 link that's good enough to be posted towards T1 GP as an example? Can poor T2's hurt the T1 link, in your opinion?

Absolutely. Google's algorithm goes upstream, so if you are pumping your Tier 1 links with low-level garbage, of course it's going to have an effect on them. This has been the case for years.

That makes sense thanks, do you have any inputs as to how to determine If the T2 is good enough, it can be quite the challenge to evaluate the T1's and if this work is multiplied by X for these T2's then a good flow/method is needed.
 
I saw a long comment from a well-respected SEO devoted member here a year or so ago. It MIGHT have been @macdonjo3 but I might be mistaken.

Anyways, they spoke about tiered backlinks and if you want your site to succeed vs how much you'd be willing to make that happen.

So, use only high(good) metric tier 1 and tier 2s for your tiered structure and that also the content mattered for those as well. So, no spun garbage. Just readable, coherent content on all of your backlinks.

Take from that what you will.

Do these Tier 1's have to be Guest Posts - PBN's or can they be Web 2. If Web 2, what are your suggestions on high metric Web 2 to use?
 
You can start several 0 authority web 2.0s and eventually link to your site from time to time. Currently it's risky to directly blast them with GSA links. You can either use quality links or create another tier of web 2.0s. If anything goes wrong, you can remove tier-2 links without losing all your backlinks at once.

Why not web 2.0s???? Can you plz explain?

I was about to start on a project with NEW web 2.0s as tier-1, then good PBN(public blog network) as tier-2 and then GSA blast.
