Google Update Impact?

Hey,
Are you facing issues in the website due to the Google update, actually from past two months my ranking dropped on some keywords, one of my keyword was on 1st position but it dropped on 5th position, and another one dropped from 8 to 15th position, my niche is web development services, recently I read an article of john Mueller and he said we don't have to work during these holidays, what should I do, work on the ranking or wait? needed advice from senior and experienced members. kindly help!

You should probably wait for a while to see if the ranking will stabilize and then if nothing changes for some time, you could consider doing some changes on the site.

position drops in the SERPS can be taken back by building more links, as cliche as this may sound. Things I would do if I were you...

1. check if my competition had changed (new competitors might have appeared) and if yes, how their page is better than mine, and then make the necessary changes (add more content, or update it, or build more links to my page). And speaking of building more links....

2. I'd add a few exact match anchor'd internal links to the page that dropped in rankings, from pages that are indexed and have good authority (UR)

3. pay for google ads. I realize that this might not be feasible for everyone, but sometimes google does favor adwords customers over anyone else. As a matter of fact, the folks who took your spots in the rankings might be doing just that

4. and lastly, wait! Google has been shooting updates left and right over the last few months, some of my sites see impression and clicks for 1 week, then the next week zeros everywhere, then impressions and clicks again and next week nothing. It's hard to make up anything out of this, so I'd say to give it a bit more time (1-2 more weeks) and if your pages don't regain the rankings work towards internal links and content update first, and building links afterwards if things are still stale

You need to worry about this, because of Google Update majority of the websites faced ranking fluctuation issues. There were number of websites gained position and some of them seen decreased ranking as well. I would recommend you to wait for some week. Moreover, this ranking fluctuation issues is not normal because some of the website has now a normalized ranking after Dec 25th. To cope from Google update you need to work more to improve the user experience of the website to be more precised the last two Google Update were morely focused to improve user experience.

You have to keep updating content on the website for google to crawl and see updates. Also, make sure to check how the competition is working on SEO to see what's causing you to rank lower than them.
