I guess you are using a heavy application or running not optimized server if you are using it for Webhosting.

I will suggest moving to AAPanel.
Make sure to use the latest PHP and when installing Nginx, make sure to add brotli and pagespeed. The speeds are amazing!

We are using AAPanel for over a year now for managing both VPSs and dedicated servers, for free and opensource panel its the best thing you can have in my opinion

recently tested cyberpanel (with openlitespeed) free version also but it haven't enough functions.

you can find methods on google to optimize ur vps speed, like changing ram swappiness.
eventually you just need to increase your budget. you can only squeeze so much power for so little money with a WP site. that low page speed hurts you so much on your conversions. it will probably pay for itself if u just rent the faster hardware.
WP is very heavy platform. if you don't need all the bells and whistles WP has to offer, consider moving to a static html site.

I know peeps running up to 500K traffic per month on a 1GB ram 1Core VPS.
Its all come down to optimization, hardware is not always a key if you are running a WordPress or static page

i agree very possible. optimization is top priority in these cases. thankfuly lots of blog posts, youtube videos, and tutorials on the net all for free so OP can implement.

How cheap is cheap?

My recommendation would be one of these..

Vultr, Digital Ocean, Hyonix (from BHW), Linode,OVH (for bigger ones... smaller ones aren't that cheap as per my observation).
