Hey, I have been away from SEO for a few years now. I am in kind of a doubt.

I would either buy a .xyz domain or continue with a .blogspot subdomain.

Particularly from a ranking point of view, what do you think is better? .xyz TLD or .blogspot subdomain?

I've never made specific testing on this, but I can tell that many web 2.0s are doomed nowadays unlike they have been,
This includes blogger as well as many others and using a custom domain gonna work out better for sure

You are right Sir, at one point I used it for ads, it got the account banned. I can't really say it was to blame though but everything was going fine before then.

Haven't seen one ranking well in a while.

I have seen a few with custom domains though. Not sure if that count for your question because it's not a typical web 2.0.

They moved to being great source of links rather. Lot of artists like designers or musicians have legit blogs and link to each other.

You are better off getting your own domains with all honesty.

Yes, but personally I do not advise it.

I would suggest you buy your own domain, you will achieve a lot more that way, and it can give your site some kind of authority online. Blogspots don't have that power anymore, in fact, fewer and fewer people are using this platform, many bloggers moved to WordPress.

The short answer is yes.

If the site is legit and is updated with quality content and still attracts high-quality links in its niche, it will still rank.

In fact, in certain financial sub-niches, they are Blogspot blogs that rank pretty well.

Considering how competitive that sub-niche is, this is a good indicator of how well Blogspot blogs rank overall.

Your main challenge is finding the right Blogspot blog to buy.

Even if it ranks, you'll have to move to WP at some point
For me, they're dead

I dont think it is now as good as it used to be.

I was a blogspot user for 2-3 years. But now I prefer tumblr

just checked an old blogspot blog created years ago... it's barely indexed, let alone getting traffic

why you are saying it's Dead ?
i ranked a blogger in less than a month (automated content) +1.2K ranking keywords using Blogspot with custom domain

Some are still ranking but it should be noted that they have great content and dedicated followers. If you're just starting, it's better to start with a custom domain. You should only choose blogspot if you can't afford domain and hosting.

Thank you everyone for your input.

Just bought a .com domain for $5.

Will go with blogger for hosting.
