These islands aren't name after Covid variants but the islands and Covid variants are named after Greek Alphabet.

Fun fact, letter before Omicron in Greek Alphabet is "Xi" lmao. Wonder why WHO skipped it.

They're all groups of Antarctic islands named after the Greek alphabet.
