So it happened that I bought a piece of land that is bigger than what I need it for. Now I have about 2000m² (= ~20K square feet) of free land in central Europe, one hour away from the next big city (> 1 million people).

Simple ideas are a parking space for RVs, solar panels (maybe mixed with crypto miners), building a warehouse for long time storage (archives etc.), ...

It rises in value by just letting the bees and the flowers do their thing. But why not boost profit a bit if it can be done with little work!

What would you do with a piece of land? Looking forward to your input.

If you live close to it and it is possible to plant stuff I would plant vegetables and fruits. Not so much for the profit bot more because I have always wanted to do that.

If you don't want to work on the land maybe you could rent it out to someone?

Well I saw a person in Scotland selling small parts of their land so then whoever buys it can legally become a ‘Lord’ and not a ‘Mr’

Keep the land, as it is that big
There are only so much land available
In years time, you can get council approval to get it up into ~300sqm pieces and sell it off for even more.

Mobile homes then rent to people looking for short term accommodation q

Thanks for the ideas so far!

I will live on that land, too, and since I am periodically affected by severe misanthropy I want to have peace of mind there. Renting out or even selling is not an option. Basically anything that has to do with strangers on the land is not up for debate.

A place for my business, house and hobbies plus a garden are planned there. That 2000m² are left over and are space for possible future expansion, but just not needed at the moment. Maybe that clears up the situation a bit.

Horse stable, rent it to City people who own or want to own horses.

So you have 1/2 an acre of land in central europe and you will be living on it.

Central Europe is cold. That's great!

If it is wooded, you should grow American Ginseng on it

If it is not wooded you will have to put up shade for the plants

You can do that if the land has the correct soil composition to grow oak trees.

If you can grow oaks, you can grow Ginseng.

Here are the seeds for 1/2 an acre-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/154463172325
1/2 an acre will produce $100,000 worth of seeds and roots in 6 years

Once you start, you may want to increase your amount of land you plant, even if you
rent/lease land from someone in your area long term.

You will need to barbwire fence the area for 4 legged animals

You might need an electric fence and cameras for 2 legged animals

Fish breeding, Verticle farming of high-value plants, Mushroom farming, Cricket farming. Grind those little fuckers up into flour and sell it to hippies and liberals on Etsy. Become a serial killer and bury bodies there. Build a bunker and rent out seats to doomsday preppers. Grow out a beautiful garden with exotic plants and rent it out as a wedding place. Rent out small garden plots to your neighbors. so many possibilities.

I don't know about your country regulations, but if that land is in my country I would build an electric gas station since the demand is picking up here.

If you want the easiest way possible then have a look at Glamping. Set up glamping tents and list them on Airbnb. People in a city are always looking for an escape to the country side. Add a bunch of experience based stuff along with their stay and you'll be a hit in no time.

Edit : Sorry just read your reply above that you don't want to host strangers on your land. Can't think of anything else other than growing your own food if the land is fertile.

I ran across this a couple of days ago and had a poke at some of the listings around here in Scotland. The numbers some of them are doing are pretty crazy. Some six-figure incomes there for sure.

Legally is a stretch. You can make a restaurant booking with it but they're not going to let you put it on your passport.

At some point last year I was actually picking through an AdWords campaign for this. Someone I knew had some land and there was a site selling 1inch by 1inch of some field in the middle of nowhere. Shipped them a piece of paper for $30.

Construct apartments and rent it.

Definitely a good idea! I need to check regulations for sales, though. But I plan to plant some fruit trees which will need 7-10 years until the first harvest, so why not do my future I a favor and widen the portfolio! Thanks for the hint!

I'm not into killing life of any kind, so fish and cricket are out. Let them enjoy life just as you and I do. Although the serial killer thing sounds tempting. Even just burying bodies as a service, using them as a filler in concrete - so many possibilities! Also the bunker thing is something I already thought about briefly. You have lots of powerful ideas, my friend!

Put up a greenhouse and grow AAA weed.

Homegrown food food is always the best! But maybe not the best idea to do that in your backyard.

I'd put a big pond on it where @Willyfish could feel happy.
That's it, a happy place.
Thanks my handsome man

I might invite both of you and we'll start a porn production company. Deal?

EV charging station!

This might be an idea. But I fear that 1. the place is not crowded enough, 2. the lifespan of an amateur charging-station-guy might be limited and 3. I'd prefer not to have too many cars on my land. But still worth to consider. Thanks!

Definitely something I thought about! But rather than being dependant on more income in the future I plan to need less money and rather enjoy peace of mind and peace of space and sound. So having an abundance of fresh lettuce in the back yard is worth way more than an abstract number on the bank account. But still thanks for your edit!

Thank you all a lot for the input! This idea is forming in the progress and you guys help me to shape it just a bit more. So if anyone has the need to throw in her or his two cents, please make yourselves home.
