Discovered - currently not indexed ?

Just as the title says - I have 25 pages Google just ignored. How can I fix this? Here's what I did:

1. Submitted sitemap via Google Console
2. Sitemap is on homepage beside my social icons.
3. The pages are 1,000+ word articles.

It has been a week and no update or index for these pages.

It´s hard to pinpoint the issue as to why Google hasn´t indexed those pieces of content yet.

Sure, you say they are 1,000+ word article but there are many SEO factors or "SEO signals" that comes into place for Google to decide whether or not to indexed a page besides its length.

For example...

• Pages blocked by the robots.txt - Not because Google discovers it means it crawls it. Maybe landed on that page through the internal links on the site. This is the main differences between “Crawled – Currently Not Indexed” and “Discovered – Currently Not Indexed”
• Pages with a "noindex" meta robot tag - Have you checked this?
• Low-quality content - Saying all articles are 1,000+ words means nothing. For example a) Does the article fulfill the user search intent? b) Is the content original and unique? c) is the page optimized for mobile devices? Etc
• Orphan pages - Not many internal links
• High click-depth - If the page has a crawl-depth higher than 4, this is a clear sign for Google that the content on that page is NOT important.
• How´s the page On-Page SEO? - Does it have a click-worthy page title and an enticing meta description? H1 headings and subheadings? Images? inbound and outbound links?
• Check other potential technical issues? - Check canonicals, server errors, robot.txt blocking, noindex meta tag, page loading speed, etc.

If you agree the articles are fully optimized for SEO, the next step it´s to request indexing manually on the GSC.

How can you do this?

Firstly go to the search console and paste the URL where it’s showing this problem now after verifying go to your post (which is not indexed due to this problem) then add some image files you can add some infographics etc or update some text then go to search console and do request indexing of the post you updated.

After doing this process, you need to wait for 2-3 days to see the results.

In most cases, your page will be indexed within 48 hours. But, for this kind of issue, it is good to wait for 2-3 days.

Yes, content is original and fulfills the users search intent. Also, have text hyperlinked in the articles leading to other articles on the page. I will request manually. Thank you for the detailed response.

It shows you some of the cause and to fix the Discovered - currently not indexed issues .
You can fix this either by pruning content, making the content more unique if you want Google to crawl and index it, or by removing links to it and update your robots. txt file to prevent Google from accessing these URls if you're finding Google is discovering content that they shouldn't.

Last time I checked rankmath gives orange colour to 1000+ words and green color to 1500+ words. Which means you should aim for 1500+ words.

I had this same issue, which I talked about, here:

Since then, all but a few of them (that I hadn't yet worked on) have been resolved. Only 1 that I've worked on has not been indexed. I'll play around with it a bit later (perhaps this weekend).

I'm trying this same solution on a couple of articles that won't index. Running the numbers I naturally hit some keywords a bit much (guessing) and I did a first pass and re-submitted and should know soon if that was it. Course, it may need another pass to get it closer.

Reddit always works for me! Just post it on a subreddit, any subreddit even if it's not your niche and I guarantee you, that post will get indexed within a day or two

try sharing the page, there are many other SEO factors, Social sharing is one of them, it indicates google that the particular webpage is informative and relevant, check your meta tags also, find out if you are doing something wrong, share the page and make links from high DA websites.

What's interesting is I edited the page and then manually submitted a reindex request in the GSC. It never crawled it, last crawl was like two weeks ago. Since then, and even a new page like an hour ago I wrote get crawled fine and usually indexed within a couple of hours.

Should know within a couple hours if rewording the article made a difference and google just didn't like my particular content that time.

Interestingly enough, I started doing something like this on reddit. Created my own restricted subreddit and put in a few well-written articles. Looks like all of those posts are showing and I am planning on doing just that to help pages out .. add a link onto a page and even if it's no-follow it should still help push a page here and there just so it gets indexed. Have you done something like this to help get social shares like twitter posts to get indexed?

Google must love reddit. Nice piece of advice there.

I did create the usual social shares like twitter, pinterest, etc. However, none of them are indexed so I'm not sure if they help a page on my site before they show in the google index. This is actually a topic on my mind for hours a day right now how to get social shares seen so they provide some kind of benefit. The reddit bit above may play hand-in-hand with this.

Got my fingers crossed that the article is good enough now and as a bonus I've learned a little bit more around indexing.

2 hours later and... it's indexed! The article was around 3000 words but I must have overused the main keyword a little unless it's a coincidence. With headings, etc, I was only at like 40 times in the entire article.

Please let me get you straight... you modified an article and google was refusing to re-crawl it, then you modified it again and google crawled it?
If I got you right then how can google see the changes without crawling?

You are the 2nd guy I see mentioning keyword density when talking about indexing issues. In both cases it seems it did the trick. I have 4 articles in the same situation, and now that I think about it, it might look over optimized for the main keyword. Will do a test tomorrow and check results.

I modified the article but it took quite a few requests to finally get it crawled which fixed it.

No last date for crawlers, it says not applicable
so in my case, it gets "seen" by Google, but that is it
edited 2 of them today, and resubmitted all of them like 5 times already
nothing yet
was hoping it was the keyword density
it's not even in english, it's a web 2.0 with translated content from english to some european language, no plagiarism, i checked.
