Can I monetize my blog thru guest posts?

Is it a good idea to monetize my blog through guest posting? Do I need to use guest post platforms like Kallisto.io or Fiverr?

Absolutely yes, guest posts are another way to make money that bloggers use a lot.

If your site is small, unknown, unpopular, gets no / little traffic... getting a few bucks per year won't do you any good and, worse, google might flag it as a link farm and devalue it completely. Now, if you don't care about what google say or think (which is commendable IMO) you can "monetize" it with guest posts through Fiverr.

But I still think it's better to build up your site's popularity first without bleeding it out to shady sites, and then you can afford charging more for guest posts, on top of adding ads, affiliate links, and so on (the opportunities are bigger and better with a clean website that gets 1000s of visitors per day vs a website getting $5 once in a blue moon through Fiverr and having 100% content linking out to weird websites).

You'll need to keep the "guest" posts ratio at a low rate, avoid linking to spammy websites, adding spammy content, etc...
Otherwise, it will actually be a downside for your site and could even take it down in the SERPs,

Along with that, you can make direct sale threads in Fiverr & Upwork or make a deal with some sellers with established sale threads

Isn't it more risky to loose a site via Google penalty when you got 1000 visitor or so then when there is no traffic and investment?

I see lot of sites with "write for us" going on. I assume it's working for them. So like if the site has authority and traffic , google let's them guest post but not smaller site?

That people are puting on one site "write for us" and posting on new sites and growing them once they collect content from writers.

oh, that's weird... I mean, I've never seen this happen. Also, I don't see any reasons for doing it because writing for someone doesn't necessarily mean that you're providing them with a guest post
