I have owned a site for about 7 months and it was slowly starting to grow.With this update in November I dropped a lot.Most of my posts were indexed on duckduckgo.If duckduckgo doesn't belong to Google how did I get deindexed at exactly the same time with the Google update?

I agree we need strong competition, but google is quite big. For example, bing is owned by microsoft, one of the largest tech companies, and still they cannot compete with google.

They could but it's not profitable. Microsoft makes a ton of money selling something else.

Instead of releasing these stupid updates from time to time, I honestly think Google should charge webmasters kind of monthly cost for crawling and indexing. That is win-win for them and us.

Sure, based on their business model, if all webmasters on this planet block Google, it will go bankrupt, but in reality, this is not possible because of human nature.

So hate it or not, either live by it (updates all day) or just completely block the Google, but I think nobody is willing to do that...
