As title states.
I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether you should make your homepage focus on one keyword topic only or if you can mention a few keywords topics and rank for all of them.

for example, can a web design business page also rank the home page for seo and google ads if all 3 are mentioned, or is it best to dedicate the home page to one keyword and focus service pages for the others, one keyword at a time?

I target 1 main keyword and sprinkle in a few variants.

Don't confuse Google.

Works for me......

That’s a good question. I never really expect my home page to rank for anything. It’s kind of a question that affects us all so I’d love to hear what people say on it.

For instance Wordpress should it be latest posts or is it better to have a static page.

I myself rotate through new posts but I’m far from sure on what the best is and I’m here to learn too.

i guess for a home page to outrank it’d have to be better in itself than the other pages/better backlinks.

I think it depends on your niche whether you have a blogroll or static page.

If I set up a business website I will put at least 1k of words on the home page....

Create different landing pages and target a different keyword for each page. There’s only so many keywords you can rank for a single page.

You should focus on one main keyword per page while also including two or three SEO keyword variations. Each of your pages should be focused on a single topic with the most important keywords for SEO purposes being included. So pick one to three keywords for each page.
But there are some additional things you should take into consideration to get the highest rankings.

Depends on how big you are.
Start with 1 and move from there once you are satified

Mostly focus on one main keywords for each page. But if we need your content to look natural, use one keyword and two closely related keywords.

I believe this is the best approach
Optimize 1 kw per page along with long tails
Agreed.

Do any of you use LSI keywords to the extent that they get mixed in with the other long tail keywords just to try to catch the variants?

but what for example about FAQ like questions which you can answer in a paragraph?
true you can group them somehow, but after a while, it makes more sense to have them in one page

just making up an example: asking your alexa about the time, about the weather, about todays date.
Assume these are search terms and are to be targeted.

Those clearly will not make each a 500 word article and are better served as all three on one page?

I tend to look at it more as a page on a topic than a keyword. Related People Also Ask / FAQ questions I consider part of the same topic and I include them on the same page to round out the topic. I also look at the related searches at the bottom to see if there is anything I missed addressing, and sometimes I even look at the LSI keywords to see if I missed an obvious topic that others hit.

So I would put all three of the FAQ into one bigger article myself. But that's just me.

Somewhere in the past couple of months I remember John Mueller was talking about the same thing, whether one big page or using multiple smaller pages, was better. Granted it's a Google answer but here is what he said back in September: https://www.searchenginejournal.com/build-fewer-but-stronger-pages-or-create-lots-of-pages/421587/

The cliff notes version is that he says it depends, but if it's a tough topic to get to the top, having a few pages that are individually stronger may be the best bet.

normally, you should focus in 4-5 similar keywords at most,
this includes 1 or 2 main ones and a couple of partial matches,
any more than these will usually result in kind of spammy page,
and breaking down the number of keywords into multiple pages would actually help to rank for more keywords for each group of them,

despite how many keywords you focus on, the page could rank for unlimited number of long tail keywords,
how many you optimise your page for and how many it could rank for is totally different

Does everyone include FAQ sections that answer Alexa or Siri type voice questions ? Does it make a big impact?
