hello,
I'm starting a new blog and I'm wondering if I could exploit the low coopetition on local searches to drive traffic to my website and even make affiliate sales.

For example let's say I have a website about fish (pets).
There is a lot of competition for the keyword "fish food" but probably way less on keywords like "fish food in *random city* ".
I could write an article that answer honestly the question about fish food in *random city*, but at the end I could plug my affiliate fish food website as an alternative of buying fish food in person.
What do you think about that? Is is feasible? Have you already done this before?
Also, quick thought that came to mind just now, the physical shop that i mention in my article could pay me back by giving me a backlink from his website or his socials, what do you think?
Thanks guys

Yes, it's a good idea. +there will be a better ranking for such a query. For a refund, it is better to contact directly.

thank you for your answer, but it's not quite clear to me what do you mean with "there will be a better ranking for such a query. For a refund, it is better to contact directly."

If you register a turnkey domain: "fish food in *random* city", then Google will rank you better - higher in the search.

Can return, or can not return - depends on the offline store with which you will negotiate.

Does anybody has other opinions or ideas to improve this method?

You register the domain: "fish food in *random* city". Next, you are looking for key queries for the domain. I find through Ahrefs. It's up to you to decide whether to do it deeply and for a long time, or superficially. That is, simply enter in the Ahrefs: "fish food in *random* city" - and download the queries. Or simply: "fish food in city", there will be more requests here. This is obvious without synonyms. Next, you need to cluster queries and build up the structure of the site, in accordance with the clusters. Again with the city in the request, there will be fewer requests.

Example of a cluster structure.

You write articles, buy a few links and the domain moves up. This is without deep study of texts, compiling tails from queries. Finding average values for occurrences from the search results rating...

thank you !

For local search queries like these, your article would be shown after all business listings. Even if you manage to rank for it, traffic won't be that great.
Interesting thought process.

but if i manage to get backlinks from the businesses that i mention in the article, my whole domain should gain authority and so rank higher overall. Correct?
