It feels like a pretentious term that is limiting any kind of adoption at the moment.
In 2 years it might be one of the most common words used, but right now it's just tech geeks and wannabe tech geeks who are trying to get rich off of tech geek's work and visions.
Like, read this entire article, and you still wont understand wtf a "metaverse" is, and the guy actually takes the time you tell you are wrong if you think these others things are a metaverse.

It just comes across so douchey, but at the same time important to keep an eye on, and the few people who either 1) fully understand it or 2) get in on it early without understanding it will probably make a ton of money.
