How safe metamask is on win7 ?

I'm using the latest version of google chrome and metamask, is this safe enough or the operating system also matter? since the keys never leave your browser and my browser is chrome up to date, I should be safe even if I'm at win7 right?

I know it is not safe, but the wallet itself on chrome and chrome is safe. Google has confirmed that Chrome will support Windows 7 until at least January 15, 2022

Sure I suppose. That's what you want to hear right? But what good is a padlock on the door when a wall is missing? Chrome is only safe as long as you aren't giving someone else free access to it. You should consider upgrading your os, there are a ton of very nasty exploits in windows 7 that could give someone access to your chrome.

Really? so if by exploiting those win7 weak points, someone can access your chrome browser and control your funds on metamask???

You never know with Windows. All in all, if you want to be more secure, use a hardware wallet and connect metamask with it. You will not lose your pk atleast.

If there is even a sliver of possibility it's best avoided right? Like gogol said, a hardware wallet is best

Hard to say. Why? Because Windows is a closed-source software. Only microsoft engineers have access to the source code (afaik). That said, I assume it is more insecure, yes. Because win 7 is not in active development anymore like @leechesBleechin pointed out.

Any OS that's not up to date is a risk. That's why you don't use an old phone, old laptop or old software for sensitive data. Keep everything updated to the latest generation

Example: this year we found out about the pegasus spyware, do you really think old generations of Windows or Android are patched for it?
