Which link would you take

absolutely 100% site #2 every day, twice on sundays!

relevancy is BS. I got a link from a sports site that has nothing to do with my business, and it has done wonders, because the site has huge amount of traffic (think ESPN!). I have also gotten link from related business sites, that do not have anywhere close to that sports site and result were so so.

again, relevancy is BS, traffic is king from google's eyes.

you are saying guest post, so even though site #2 is not related to your site, your guest is related. this is similar to my case.

Am not going with any, this is just hypothetical, to see everybody's opinion on relevancy vs authority. I just wanna know what you all think on that topic
 
I would choose Site 1 since it's relevant to your site, and on page 1. So your traffic will be intent to your site.

Remember the DR is a third.party metric :)
While if a site get high traffic, it means it's appreciated by google itself.
Site 1 no doubt in this case.

True about the metrics and traffic and site 2 has 2 million hits traffic compared to site 1 which has 40k so I don't get your logic for Site 1?

I know that the traffic might be unrelated to your niche, but then again, it's a generic niche so some of that traffic might be interested in your niche at any time. And since the price is the same for both websites the double authority might make the difference

They both generic, which means they are both diverse in a range of content.
So your niche could be the first of many to come.

If site 2 is a newspaper or a renowned magazine and the link is a contextual do follow, I’d go with that. Otherwise I’d choose site #1.

But I’d probably get both, maybe not at the same time.

Fully agree with this.

If Google gives them 2 million visitors a month, then they must like them. For now. It's always good to be seen with the people (websites) that Google favor.
