There is already some great advice here, but something I would recommend is finding the people that actually know something and following them. There is A LOT of BS, wannabe experts, etc. Learn to separate the nuggets from the junk & follow the true experts that are getting results.

For White Hat, get ready to do a lot of reading - straight from the mother source - just Google "developers google advanced guidelines"
