Probably just a joke but also humans might be getting dumber: https://www.livescience.com/37095-humans-smarter-or-dumber.html and definitely more dumb people have access to internet today, than 20 years ago and so you notice them online more. You also got a lot of very young people engaging with others online. What may seem stupid to a 15 or 20 year old, might make perfect sense to a 12 year old.
